Pre-Season Management

  • Plan the merchandising strategy aligning with the global brand strategy and local market needs
  • Analyze the market trend, such as design, fabric, color, and price as well as the competitors’ strategies
  • Provide input to the global/APAC MD team for further product development and quality improvement based on market needs
  • Manage Buying process: select products and assortments for the Japanese market during workshops and determine final options and SKUs for each product
  • Establish buy plans and forecasts for the collections
  • Set the selling price for each product while considering the competitor’s price line and the gross margin budget.
  • Manage the monthly delivery plan cooperating with allocator and visual merchandiser.
  • Conduct extensive Product training prior to each collection launch

In-Season Management

  • Monitor the delivery status of merchandise, topline sales, sell-through and inventory balance. Hold weekly cross functional mtgs to review the business, and to implement tactical adjustments that will achieve sales budget & sell through
  • Establish forecasts, track sales performance and sell-through rates for each product and propose appropriate action plans
  • Determine weekly discount actions to maximize sell-throughs and drive topline
  • Establish product flow to incorporate Leftover inventory from Full Price
  • Manage in-season replenishment of core products that are carried out all year and any necessary product reorder
  • Drives continuous improvement of merchandising systems and processes (sales and sell-through analysis; OTB management; sales modeling and forecasting; hindsight studies; style and size analysis; competitive/market intelligence; pricing research) to optimize the business
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, influence and drive to consensus all short- and long-range merchandising strategies and objectives for all categories by season. Provide marketing and sales teams with product knowledge and serve as an informational hub. Be present in key business meetings

Product Development

  • In case there is a specific local market need that needs to be catered via product development, lead the overall process. This includes market analysis, briefing the design team with the assortment plan, design image, material to be used, pricing, and checking the design & sample quality at certain check points

TEAM MANAGEMENT / REPORTING / COMMUNICATION

  • Act as the cross-functional lead to work closely with other internal functions. Ensure smooth orchestration of product launches, seasonal campaigns and other brand/sales initiatives
  • Lead seasonal product training to other functions within Japan office and to store associates.
  • Creation of merchandise performance reports
