Mission Description
Responsible for training, coaching, and supervising truck and trailer drivers to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations. Focuses on enhancing driver performance, promoting best practices in road safety, fuel efficiency, and cargo handling, while also ensuring adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements. The Driver Mentor will be reporting to the Fleet manager in our Nairobi Transport Department.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the following key result areas: -
1.Provide on-the-job driver training for new and existing drivers, covering defensive driving, load securing, fuel-efficient driving, and trailer handling.
2. Conduct ride-along evaluations and provide structured feedback to drivers on driving performance, safety, and compliance.
3. Mentor drivers in trip planning, vehicle inspection, and cargo handling procedures.
4. Support the induction and onboarding of new drivers into company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.
5. Monitor driver performance data (telemetry, fuel consumption, incidents, violations) and coach drivers on improvements.
6. Assist in the investigation of accidents, near misses, and violations, and provide corrective training where required.
7. Conduct periodic refresher training sessions on road safety, customer service, and regulatory updates.
8. Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with road transport regulations, company SOPs, and industry standards.
9. Work with Fleet Manager and HR to identify drivers for recognition, additional training, or disciplinary measures.
10. Maintain accurate training and mentorship records for compliance and reporting purposes
Profile
- • O' level or equivalent
- • Valid relevant driving license
- • Basic knowledge in mechanics
- • Basic geographical knowledge
- • 7 years driving experience, 3 of which should be driving HCV
