What does a successful Director, Business Development Financial Institutions do?

As the Director, Business Development Financial Institutions for the Nordics, Baltics and DACH regions, you will serve as a key player in driving our new business growth. You will build trusted relationships at executive and operational levels with prospective clients, keeping them informed about Fiserv’s offerings and payments innovation. Your proactive nature will help you identify and close opportunities with financial institutions, delivering excellence for our clients.

What You Will Do:

  • Build and manage a strong pipeline of new opportunities with financial institutions, payment service providers, and fintechs.
  • Lead RFx responses, customize solution demonstrations, and adapt commercial pitches to local market needs and languages.
  • Collaborate across Fiserv to craft compelling technical and commercial proposals addressing local regulatory, data residency, and compliance requirements.
  • Lead commercial and contract negotiations, engaging internal stakeholders across various functions.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with regional banks, domestic processors, local schemes, and fintech partners.
  • Stay updated on market trends and regulatory developments to advise internal teams and prospects on market strategy and product fit.
  • Represent Fiserv at regional and local industry events and conferences, driving targeted business development activities.
  • Coordinate with implementation and delivery teams to ensure commercial commitments are realistic and delivery timelines meet client expectations.

What you will need to have:

  • Experience in sales, business development, or product roles within payments or financial services with a track record of winning new business.
  • Familiarity with commercial and regulatory dynamics of Nordics/Baltics and DACH markets.
  • Strong commercial acumen managing complex sales cycles and RFx processes.
  • Customer-centric mindset, resilient hunter attitude, and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in English and relevant local languages like Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, or German.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across the region and work independently while coordinating with global teams.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and standard office productivity tools.

What would be great to have:

  • Proven track record of winning business from Tier-1 banks or top financial institutions.
  • Knowledge of regional and local payment rails and schemes such as MobilePay, Swish, Vipps, girocard, TWINT, and familiarity with PSD2/SEPA implications.
  • Experience with issuer and acquirer processing platforms and integrations.
  • Existing commercial relationships with banks, processors, consulting firms, or fintechs in Nordics, Baltics, or DACH markets.
