The Relationship & Risk Manager is responsible for overseeing non-credit risk across Treasury Services and managing a portfolio of high-risk, non-borrowing corporate clients. This role also leads compliance administration, supports enterprise-wide initiatives, and collaborates with Legal, Compliance, and Operational Risk teams to ensure regulatory alignment and procedural integrity.
Major Responsibilities
- Processes ACH & Remote Deposit Capture Requests and ACH commitment renewals, completing thorough research, reviewing the customer’s relationship, and applying ACH expertise to assess suitability of commitment amount. Provides guidance and feedback to internal partners regarding underwriting decisions.
- Manages a portfolio of non-borrowing corporate clients whose risk profile requires an enhanced understanding of ACH. Serves as the primary subject matter expert for all Treasury Services Deposit Account Control Agreement accounts and Treasury Services Escrow Agreements that name Eastern Bank as Escrow Agent, as requested. Performs regular relationship reviews and risk assessments.
- Functions as Department Lead for all enterprise-wide projects, including migrations, merger & acquisition work and other key projects.
- Provides guidance on company-wide policies impacting high-risk transactions such as ACH and Wire Transfers. Participates in advisory committees and supports Compliance and Audit, offering ACH expertise to guide reviews.
- Working with the Treasury Services Manager II, performs recurring monthly & annual reviews, including but not limited to annual review of all department procedures, performing annual user access reviews, and responding to risk reporting.
- Serves as the Compliance Administrator for the Treasury Services business line, providing knowledge and expertise on the appropriate implementation of regulations, rules, and industry standards through procedures, guidelines, Business Impact Analysis, Business Continuity Management, and industry best practices. In consultation with internal subject matter experts, provides regulatory expertise and solutions on complex risk and compliance issues based on business unit activities and products. Serves as division’s Cobblestone administrator, performing initial and annual reviews of all contracts owned by the Treasury Services division.
Problem Solving & Decision Making:
This position operates with a high degree of autonomy in identifying, assessing, and documenting material risks. While reporting to the Treasury Services Manager II, the incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgment and provide strategic input on risk and compliance matters.
Requirements:
Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CTP, APRP, AAP) preferred.
- 5–7 years of experience in cash management, risk management or ACH oversight within financial services, preferably in a regulated commercial or institutional environment.
- Experience in a financial institution or other organization under strong regulatory oversight, particularly within the commercial and institutional environment.
Skills/Knowledge
- Highly organized and motivated, with demonstrated ability to think creatively and critically, and solve problems effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of business banking operations of financial institutions including regulatory requirements, best practices, key processes, controls, and exposure areas.
- Knowledge of best practices for identifying, documenting, and assessing material risks, evaluating internal controls, and conducting risk assessments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Working Conditions
The position follows a hybrid work model, requiring in-office presence on designated days and flexibility for remote collaboration based on project needs. Occasional travel between Bank office locations may be required depending on project assignments.
