Methodist Hospital is looking to hire a Surgery Aide to join our surgical materials team! Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day.
Position Summary:
Assists operating room personnel to provide an environment that is clean and safe for patient care. Responsible for knowing supply inventory in OR Core areas. Stocks surgery department with sterile and non-sterile supplies. Works to supply the OR with supplies and equipment needed for cases. Maintains a collaborative, service-oriented relationship with OR Materials staff, OR staff and surgeons.
- Room Turnover
- Assist OR Staff with patient position as directed (to and from the operating table).
- Transport patient to/from Operating Room before/after surgery safely and comfortably.
- Clean Operating Room after surgery complete according to policies and standard work procedures.
- Restock common areas with supplies.
- Responds to the need for single items in emergency situations and sends to the OR.
- Plan equipment and staging needs of OR cases throughout the shift.
- Reports malfunctioning/damaged equipment.
- Transports specimens to the lab and logs them in correctly.
- Responsible for Waste disposals (garbage, dirty linen, biohazard red boxes, Meds in Black, etc.)
- Maintains good communication skills, uses courtesy and helpful attitude on telephone or intercom with OR and other areas of the hospital.
- Follow Standard Work throughout the Department.
- Maintain cleanliness of work area.
- Assist OR Staff with patient position as directed (to and from the operating table).
- Transport patient to/from Operating Room before/after surgery safely and comfortably.
- Clean Operating Room after surgery complete according to policies and standard work procedures.
Work Schedule:
- 1.0 FTE
- Rotating – Days/Evenings/Weekends
Required Qualifications:
- 6 months of patient care experience required
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Demonstrated understanding of principles of sterile processing and materials handling
- Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Graduate preferred
- Surgical materials handling preferred
