As the Senior Specialist, Disability Leave and Well-Being, you’ll oversee disability case management processes, manage internal workers’ compensation (CNESST/WCB) claims and co-ordinate employee well-being initiatives across the organization. You’ll also proactively monitor legislation and industry trends to develop and adapt relevant policies and procedures.

In this role, you’ll be instrumental in overseeing disability case management, handling workers’ compensation (CNESST/WCB) claims and championing employee well-being initiatives across the organization. You’ll also play a key role in monitoring legislative changes and industry trends to shape our policies and procedures.
At Cbc/Radio-Canada:
- Short-term disability (STD) and medical accommodation claims are administered by a third-party provider.
- Long-term disability (LTD) claims are handled by our insurer.
- Workers’ compensation (WC) claims are managed internally.
Key Responsibilities:
Overseeing Disability Claims
- Monitor and support the management of STD, medical accommodation and LTD claims handled by external providers.
- Ensure our third-party administrator manages STD and medical accommodation claims effectively, in alignment with industry best practices, corporate policies and collective agreements.
- Conduct quarterly audits of STD and medical accommodation claims.
- Work closely with the workplace accommodation specialist as needed.
- Address service issues reported by all stakeholders.
- Provide support and expertise in all disability-related matters to HR business partners and Managers.
- Share best practices in disability management and prevention with HR business partners and managers.
- Administer unpaid medical leave as required.
Workers’ Compensation (Wc) Case Management:
- Open and manage WC claims in line with internal protocols.
- Maintain regular communication with provincial and territorial workers’ compensation boards across Canada and with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).
- Ensure all updates, decisions, follow-ups and objections are properly documented and communicated.
- Prepare, review and analyze independent medical evaluations (IMEs) as required.
- Handle all administrative tasks related to WC claims.
- Provide timely updates to all relevant stakeholders.
- Support legal counsel in preparing case files and documentation.
- Participate in hearings as an adviser or employer representative when required.
Well-Being Initiatives
- Act as the main point of contact for the network of Well-Being Champions at CBC/Radio-Canada.
- Plan and lead quarterly or semi-annual meetings with Well-Being Champions to share updates, discuss special events and foster engagement.
- Co-ordinate and promote well-being initiatives, such as Well-Being Challenges and events.
- Develop and update the annual well-being calendar and monthly communications (e.g., articles, resources, campaign messaging).
- Share relevant well-being information through various communication channels.
- Keep all well-being resources and documentation current and relevant.
- Respond to questions from Well-Being Champions and internal teams as required.
- Be the central hub for our incredible network of Well-Being Champions, empowering them to make a real difference across CBC/Radio-Canada.
- Plan quarterly or semi-annual meetings with our Well-Being Champions, igniting engagement and ensuring everyone is aligned with the latest updates and special events.
- Drive impactful well-being initiatives, from inspiring challenges to engaging activities, promoting a culture of health and vitality.
- Shape our well-being narrative by maintaining an annual calendar and monthly communications, including insightful articles, valuable resources and impactful campaign messaging.
- Be the voice of well-being, sharing crucial information through various channels to reach every corner of our organization.
- Be the go-to expert, providing timely and helpful responses to questions from our dedicated Well-Being Champions and internal teams.
Other
- Contribute to special projects related to employee benefits, disability management and well-being.
Qualifications And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources administration or a similar field.
- Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in disability management and/or occupational health.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian disability legislation and workers’ compensation processes.
- Experience in the health industry an asset.
- Experience working with third-party administrators and/or insurers.
- Excellent communication skills in both English and French.
- Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated experience in well-being and disability management programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Good knowledge of Canadian disability legislation and workers’ compensation regulations and processes.
- Up-to-date knowledge of industry standards that may impact corporate disability, workers’ compensation policies and well-being.
- Experience working in a unionized environment as an HR professional is an asset.
- Demonstrated discretion, empathy and professionalism in handling sensitive information.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
