Position Summary:

The Histotech/Medical Assistant (WLM) will serve a dual role in the clinical and laboratory settings, providing patient care as a Medical Assistant while also handling histotechnical responsibilities. This position is crucial for ensuring seamless operations within the practice and optimal patient experiences.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

• Perform routine Medical Assistant duties, including preparing patients for examination, obtaining vital signs, and updating medical records.
• Assist physicians with examinations, procedures, and treatments to ensure efficient patient flow.
• Collect and process tissue specimens for histological analysis following established protocols.
• Prepare and embed specimens for microscopic examination, ensuring adherence to quality control standards.
• Perform tissue sectioning, staining, and mounting of slides for laboratory analysis.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and assist in troubleshooting issues as needed.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards as outlined by CLIA and OSHA.
• Document laboratory procedures and results accurately in the histology database.
• Engage in ongoing education and training to enhance histotechnology expertise.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to support patient care and laboratory operations.

Requirements

Education And/Or Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Histotechnology, Medical Assisting, or related field preferred.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) and/or Histotechnologist (HTL) preferred.
• Previous experience in a clinical or histology laboratory setting is strongly preferred.
• Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication skills to interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
