Position Summary:
The Histotech/Medical Assistant (WLM) will serve a dual role in the clinical and laboratory settings, providing patient care as a Medical Assistant while also handling histotechnical responsibilities. This position is crucial for ensuring seamless operations within the practice and optimal patient experiences.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Perform routine Medical Assistant duties, including preparing patients for examination, obtaining vital signs, and updating medical records.
- Assist physicians with examinations, procedures, and treatments to ensure efficient patient flow.
- Collect and process tissue specimens for histological analysis following established protocols.
- Prepare and embed specimens for microscopic examination, ensuring adherence to quality control standards.
- Perform tissue sectioning, staining, and mounting of slides for laboratory analysis.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and assist in troubleshooting issues as needed.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards as outlined by CLIA and OSHA.
- Document laboratory procedures and results accurately in the histology database.
- Engage in ongoing education and training to enhance histotechnology expertise.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to support patient care and laboratory operations.
Requirements
Education And/Or Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Histotechnology, Medical Assisting, or related field preferred.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) and/or Histotechnologist (HTL) preferred.
- Previous experience in a clinical or histology laboratory setting is strongly preferred.
- Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills to interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
