Mainframe Batch Tester

This is a remote position.

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Mainframe Batch Tester to ensure the quality and accuracy of mission-critical financial systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in testing high-volume batch processes and possess deep functional knowledge of systems related to ACS (Automated Collections System), loan servicing, or payments. This is a 100% remote contract position.

Key Responsibilities

Batch Execution & Validation

• Test Case Design: Design, document, and execute comprehensive test plans and detailed test cases for complex mainframe batch cycles and integrated online processes.
• Data Validation: Perform rigorous data reconciliation and backend testing using DB2/SQL, File-Aid, or similar tools to ensure data integrity across various files (VSAM, sequential) and databases.
• Batch Cycle Management: Execute and validate end-to-end batch flows, including job dependencies, scheduling (CA-7/Control-M), exception handling, and restart/recovery logic.
• JCL & Logs: Analyze JCL (Job Control Language) execution results, job logs, and abend codes to isolate and troubleshoot defects within the batch environment.

Domain & Technical Expertise

• Domain Testing: Apply deep functional knowledge to test key business processes within ACS, collections, loan servicing, or payments systems (e.g., payment posting, interest accrual, statement generation, late fee processing).
• Test Data Management: Create, manipulate, and manage complex test data using tools like File-Aid or custom scripting (e.g., REXX, Python, or shell scripting) to cover positive, negative, and edge-case scenarios.
• Scripting for Automation: Utilize scripting must for test data creation, validation automation, environment setup, or repetitive file comparison tasks.

Collaboration & Quality Assurance

• Defect Management: Identify, document, prioritize, and track defects using tools like JIRA or HP ALM, collaborating closely with developers and business analysts for root cause analysis and resolution.
• Documentation: Create and maintain test deliverables, including Test Plans, Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTM), and detailed test execution reports.
• SDLC/Agile: Actively participate in all phases of the Agile SDLC, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and release support (UAT, cutover validation).

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of dedicated experience in Mainframe Quality Assurance or Functional Testing.
• Proven expertise in testing financial services applications, specifically in collections (ACS), loan servicing, or payments/banking domains.
• Strong technical proficiency in mainframe utilities: JCL, DB2/SQL, VSAM, TSO/ISPF, and File-Aid.
• Mandatory hands-on scripting experience (REXX, Python, or Shell) for test automation/data utility.
• Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills suitable for a remote, contract environment.
• Strong technical proficiency in mainframe utilities: JCL, DB2/SQL, VSAM, TSO/ISPF, and File-Aid.
• Mandatory hands-on scripting experience (REXX, Python, or Shell) for test automation/data utility.
• Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
