This position is a member of our Water Supply Division.
Here’S What You’Ll Be Doing
- Complete technical work related to implementation of state and federal drinking water regulations for the Drinking Water Standards Section in the Water Supply Division of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
- Conduct in office and/or on-site technical reviews, analyses, quality control and evaluations on routine to complex information from internal and external customers to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; and follow up with appropriate corrective actions.
- Utilize data by following established business processes, maintain quality control and provide information related to drinking water quality and public water systems.
- Provide customer service to internal and external customers related to the agency’s drinking water quality program through verbal and written communication, correspondence, reports, meetings, presentations, and responses to the Public Information Requests (PIRs).
- Assist with training, including mentoring staff with less experience. Develop knowledge to serve as a subject matter expert for assigned programs/topics. Participate in special projects.
Qualifications
Key Qualifications
- Experience providing management, staff, and/or the public information on environmental or policy-related issues.
- Experience maintaining or updating databases.
- Experience drafting, analyzing, and/or reviewing technical documents.
Required Education & Experience
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field, plus two years of full-time experience in environmental activities.
One year of full-time experience in the field of environmental activities may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.
Or
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the degrees listed above, plus one year of the required experience.
Or
A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, science, environmental studies, or related fields.
Or
Career Ladder Progression: Two years of full-time experience as a Natural Resources Specialist II at TCEQ.
Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Current Tceq Employees
This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Natural Resources Specialist III state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Natural Resources Specialist III series.
Work Schedule
Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Water Supply Division.
