About Us
London Borough of Newham is looking for a dynamic individual to join our Information Rights Team as a Senior Information Rights Officer on a permanent contract.
The Information Rights Team work within the Information Assurance function that is part of the Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) Service in LB Newham.
This post will be on LB Newham Terms and Conditions and based at Dockside, Newham with a degree of flexible working. Travel between other offices may be required.
About The Job
This role involves processing all information rights requests therefore substantial knowledge of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (relating to information rights), the Data Protection Act 2018, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 is essential.
This is a key role in the delivery of Data Subject Access Requests (SARs), Freedom of Information (FOI’s), Environmental Information (EIR’s), Disclosure Requests and other individual information rights requests within statutory timescales on behalf of the Council. You will also be expected to support other wider team activities for example the running of subject matter drop-in clinics.
About You
You should be able to demonstrate the ability to interpret and apply legislation to complex requests, including the application of exemptions and exceptions. You must also be proficient in preparing and delivering redacted document bundles to support requests.
You should be self-motivated as you will have your own case load and your excellent communication skills will be essential to your success in your ability to work as part of the team and develop effective working relationships especially social work colleagues.

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
