Description
The Embree Lab at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a motivated, highly organized, and scientifically driven Staff Associate to join our dynamic team. Our research focuses on stem cell biology, mouse genetics, and regenerative medicine, with the goal of developing innovative therapies for musculoskeletal diseases. This position offers the opportunity to be a central part of a lab that is pushing the boundaries of translational science.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and oversee lab policies, practices, and resource allocation
- Provide mentorship and support to junior scientists and trainees
- Coordinate and contribute to a wide range of research activities, including:
- Mouse genetics and colony husbandry
- Animal surgeries and care
- In vitro cell culture and organoid models
- Microscopic imaging and advanced analysis
- Disease modeling and preclinical drug testing
- Biomaterials development and tissue engineering approaches
- Maintain specialized laboratory equipment and instrumentation
- Manage ordering and inventory of research supplies, reagents, and components
- Oversee scheduling and utilization of shared resources
- Ensure accurate and compliant record-keeping, including animal protocols and laboratory databases
- Provide organizational and administrative support to the PI and research team
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in specific research field and 4 years experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field plus 4 years of experience preferred.
- MS/PhD Preferred
- Hands-on experience with mouse genetics and colony management strongly preferred
- Prior experience with in vivo mouse models, large animal models, cell culture, or biomaterials research is prioritized
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities
- Familiarity with lab operations, including compliance, safety, and equipment oversight
- Enthusiasm for science, teamwork, and innovation in a fast-paced research environment
