Description

 

The University of Iowa is seeking an IT Knowledge Management and Content Specialist to create and maintain IT knowledge and content on platforms such as the Information Technology Services (ITS) website, Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) tools, and SharePoint sites.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with service owners to ensure knowledge management resources are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of knowledge management strategies to create a consistent experience for all IT staff.
  • Providing training to ITS web editors and supporting the campus technical trainer in delivering technical training to the campus community.

The key areas of responsibility for this position include implementation, maintenance, support/troubleshooting, consultation, training, documentation, and knowledge management.

This position is eligible for on-site, hybrid, and/or remote work arrangements within the state of Iowa, and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience (typically 1 year or more) managing content in IT enterprise systems (e.g., ITSM tools, web content management system [CMS], SharePoint), knowledge management, technical training, and/or content creation.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and present complex technical information to varied audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess knowledge management practices and recommend improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently with excellent time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and collaboration tools (e.g. Microsoft Teams)
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and teamwork skills (including collaboration with technical peers).
  • Commitment to continuous learning, staying current with advancements in knowledge management, AI, and related tools.
  • A user-focused mindset, with the ability to anticipate and address end-user needs.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with Office 365, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint, and LinkedIn Learning.
  • Experience in higher education or large, complex organizations.
  • General knowledge of IT services and technologies commonly used in enterprise or campus environments.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG).
  • Familiarity with IT support systems, including chatbots and AI tools.
  • Experience with content lifecycle management, governance, and version control.
  • Understanding of knowledge management principles, practices, and frameworks (e.g., ITIL Knowledge Management, Knowledge-Centered Services [KCS]).
