The Creative Media Manager/Producer will join a team of media producers and brand storytellers within the Office of Strategic Communication, the university’s central marketing and communications unit. This role is responsible for creating engaging video content that helps increase national awareness of the Iowa brand and reputation, supporting outreach and recruitment goals. An ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in shooting and editing, demonstrated storytelling skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to connect with audiences across platforms including web, social media, and digital and broadcast advertising.  

There is an expectation that the person in this position will maintain effective, civil, and respectful working relationships with the University of Iowa campus community and uphold the University’s commitment to creating welcoming and respectful environments for all.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

This is a Specified Term position lasting 2 years.

Key Areas of Responsibilities 

Media Production

  • Plan and produce short and long-form videos that support brand storytelling, recruitment campaigns, university priorities, and content marketing.
  • Use shooting and editing techniques that contribute to dynamic video content that engages audiences across platforms.
  • Optimize and export projects to spec and in line with web accessibility standards for YouTube and several advertising platforms including Hulu, Prime, Instagram and Spotify.

Project and Production Management

  • Collaborate with Office of Strategic Communication staff (directors, writer-editors, social media, photographers, designers, developers) to produce content about university research achievements, student success, and overall contributions to the state and society at large.
  • Implement OSC brand strategy consistently, including aligning visuals and messaging with messaging priorities and brand standards. 
  • Translate strategic direction, communication goals, and creative briefs into action. 

Financial Responsibilities

  • Maintain accountability: Track time accurately, ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Research and recommend video production gear, software, and other upgrades that enhance production quality and align with teem needs and budget. 
  • Maintain video production equipment and studio space to ensure readiness for use and longevity.

Supervisor/Leadership

  • Communicate proactively with colleagues and supervisor to ensure effective teamwork, consistent work quality, and positive work environment.
  • Effectively hire, train, and supervise student employees.

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cinema, Broadcasting, Journalism, or related field (Communication Studies, Film Studies, Television Production, Media Design, etc.); or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience creating marketing communications and video content for organizations.
  • Expert proficiency in video production including interpreting creative briefs, planning shoots, filming, editing, and navigating revisions for projects. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience leading team-based projects, including communication, expectation-setting, and asset management.
  • Must provide links to 3 different projects with an explanation of the goals, distribution platform, and your contribution to each piece of content.

Desirable Qualifications

  • 7 years experience producing marketing communications and/or branded video content.
  • Proficiency with motion typography, compositing and other visual effects using After Effects, Motion or similar software.
  • Experience with digital, pre-roll, or broadcast advertising.
  • Familiarity with the higher education industry and the ability to produce content that resonates with people from all types of backgrounds and viewpoints.
