Our team works end-to-end from substation to control room, in the fields of power system dynamics, stability, control and performance; covering instrumentation, monitoring & analytics, control systems and modelling. We work closely with customers to develop innovative solutions to emerging problems, shape and deliver software, design & deploy control schemes, and provide consulting services around power system performance, model validation, tuning of power system stabilizers, and more.

Job Description

We are looking to fill our internship positions with individuals who are passionate about revolutionizing the power system, understand the complexities around low-carbon energy and can apply innovative solutions to bring about change.

Roles and Responsibilities
You will work as part of our dynamic Power Systems team within our highly collaborative GEV Electrification Software Innovation Hub.  You will contribute to the research and design of innovative solutions utilising and extending our Wide Area Measurement and Control products, and our Transmission and Distribution Management Systems.  You will also be involved in driving consulting and project delivery services to customers, working closely with them and academic partners to address power system problems, deliver our solutions, and shape the future of the Electrical Grid.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with our customers to deliver our innovative solutions including associated training, analysis, workshops and introduction to operational service.
  • Serve as a key link with our customers – understanding their motivations and requirements, identifying opportunities, and communicating these to colleagues in our Power Systems, Software Engineering, Project Management and Commercial teams.
  • Contribute to the design and development of core Wide Area Monitoring Systems (WAMS) and Wide Area Protection and Control products – including algorithms; user, functional and performance requirements; simulation and testing.
  • Carry out analysis and studies as consultancy and services, involving model-based static and dynamic analysis, and measurement-based studies.
  • Knowledge transfer and support for customers in on-going projects, to promote increased utilization of products, gather feedback, and identify potential follow-on business.
  • Technical support for sales process, including pre-sales customer presentations and workshops, pilot projects, and engagement on customer challenges.
  • Writing technical reports, papers and presentations for conference and journal publications  
  • Up to 25% travel for customer interaction and project meetings

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Working towards a BSC, MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge and experience, with preferred focus on Power System Dynamics, Transients, Stability and Control.
  • Must be fluent in English and be able to communicate effectively over teleconference and in face-to-face meetings.
  • Must be a fast learner, with a willingness to develop knowledge in new areas and with an ability to conduct robust research.
  • Must have good communication skills, able to communicate complex and specialist concepts verbally, visually and in written word.
  • Must be able to solve problems in a holistic manner and be able to work individually and in the team

Desirable Experiences

  • Experience of Matlab and Simulink would be beneficial, as would familiarity with RTDS and OPAL-RT environments.
  • Experience in power system analysis would be beneficial, using industry standard tools including PSCAD, PSS/E, DigSILENT PowerFactory or Powertech DSATools
  • Experience with Power Electronics solutions, including simulations and controls.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • It is an office-based role. You must be able to work from the office full time.
  • Legal right to work in the UK is required. We will be unable to sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for these roles.
  • Must be enrolled at the UK based university and able to commit to a 12-month internship starting June/July 2026.
