About The Role
TotalEnergies Renewables USA is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Asset Management to lead the commercial and financial performance of our growing portfolio of renewable energy assets across North America. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of clean energy operations, overseeing a diverse mix of utility-scale and distributed generation projects.
You’ll be at the helm of a high-impact team, driving operational excellence, financial optimization, and strategic stakeholder engagement across solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and wind assets.
The position is the leader of the TotalEnergies Renewables US Asset Management team, responsible for managing the long-term financial and commercial performance of a portfolio of operating renewable assets while maintaining compliance with all contractual, environmental and regulatory obligations. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Asset Management and Operations and works closely with many other departments throughout the US Renewables organization.
Activities
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of asset management professionals responsible for the commercial and financial management of a portfolio of renewable energy assets (PV, BESS, wind) installed across the US and Canada in both utility scale and distributed generation environments.
- Design and implement an organizational structure to streamline common asset management activities across distributed generation and utility scale assets while ensuring the unique needs of each business unit is sufficiently supported.
- Foster culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, initiative and strong sense of ownership within asset management team and across the broader organization, maintaining high standards for quality and accountability.
- Oversee financial performance for operating assets, including budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis ensuring revenue streams are maximized while controlling operational expense.
- Lead resolution of material issues impacting operating assets (e.g. commercial disputes, warranty claims, regulatory violations) ensuring the appropriate level of urgency is applied and proper internal stakeholders are engaged.
- Maintain strong relationships with key external project stakeholders including investors, lenders, offtakers, regulatory bodies and industry partners.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including development, construction, engineering, finance, legal, power marketing and trading ensuring engagement of the asset management team at the appropriate levels of the organization.
- Partner with internal counterparts in Finance, Accounting and Tax teams to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial statements, tax returns and other deliverables required to maintain compliance with project and partnership obligations.
- Develop and implement robust risk management strategies to mitigate operational, commercial, financial and regulatory risks.
- Oversee asset level compliance with all contractual, environmental and regulatory obligations, ensuring all reports and filings are completed accurately and on-time
- Develop and implement strategies to maximize the efficiency and profitability of assets.
- Develop deep knowledge of the key power markets in which TotalEnergies is active in, stay abreast of emerging changes and identify potential impacts and/or opportunities for the operating assets.
- Identify and execute on opportunities to generate incremental value from existing assets for asset owners.
- Ensure asset management principles are applied consistently across operating portfolio.
Candidate Profile
Minimum Requirements:
- 10-15+ years of professional experience in energy industry, ideally in renewable energy, with at least 5 years of direct management experience.
- Bachelors degree in relevant field such as Finance, Engineering, Economics or Business Administration; MBA or other advanced degree strongly preferred.
- OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale renewable energy portfolios, including technologies such as wind, solar and BESS.
- Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills for managing teams and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, especially advanced Excel.
- Clear oral and written communication skills.
Preferred:
- Extensive experience with energy project finance, including solid understanding complex financing structures like tax equity, debt and joint ventures.
- Deep knowledge of the commercial and regulatory landscape of the energy markets, with specific experience in ERCOT, PJM and AESO.
- Ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously and to work under pressure, excellent communication and organizational skills, adaptability, supervisory and coaching skills.
- Experience with full suite of renewable energy technologies (PV, BESS, Wind, Distributed solar).
- Comfortable with formative stage of company, open to contributing to process improvement.
- Based in Austin, Texas.
