The LATAM Regional Health and Safety Specialist will assist in defining and driving global safety strategy in NSF's Labs, offices, and locations; global safety accountability; Hazardous waste management, and reports for management. This is a Regional position and reports to the Global Director of HSSE with dotted line into LATAM Managing Director and Brazil Lab Director.
Travel domestically and internationally to support global and regional health and safety initiatives and ensure compliance to local requirements.
- Conduct routine safety inspections in offices and laboratory environments and in safety equipment
- Manage permits and regulatory interactions with relevant authorities.
- Identify chemical, biological, physical and ergonomic risks.
- Ensure the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)—gloves, goggles, gowns, and masks—including performing the FIT TEST.
- Conduct LATAM accident and near-miss investigations, as well as manage corrective actions.
- Manage the Risk Management Program (PGR), PPRA and Occupational Health Medical Control Program (PCMSO) and other documents related to these programs and legal needs.

- Coordinate LATAM Security Committees and CIPA activities.
- Periodically assess the need for periodic exams and guide employees.
- Monitor and schedule admission and termination medical exams.
- Submit safety information via eSocial (Brazil government).
- Work with HR to implement, Assess and control LATAM psychosocial risk standards and NR1.
- Guide new employees, interns, and visitors on safety procedures.
- Manage the contract and relationship with the occupational health and safety service providers.
- Lead safety training and emergency preparedness.
- Monitor health, assess risks, investigate incidents, and support regional safety needs.
Bachelors Degree (preferred) or equivalent course Health, Safety and Environmental course work.
- Must be fluent in Portuguese and English. Spanish - Ability to communicate in Spanish for work-related communication.
- Demonstrated compliance with local, state and federal environment and health and safety regulations for the countries where the regional office are located.
- Demonstrated proficiency to ensure environmental policies and procedure manuals are available and updated. Demonstrated proficiency to ensure the workplace possesses an ideal and safe work environment to protect the health of the staff and visitors.
- Demonstrated ability to identify hazardous elements like chemicals or biological in the workplace.
- High proficiency in coordinating, administering and enforcing intensive training programs that are safety related (occupational and environmental safety) in both laboratory and office environments.
- Experience in evaluating the current operation and/or practices and then recommends/proposes adjustments where and when necessary.
- Highly proficient in conducting routine safety audits.
- Excellent communication skills to be able to explain safety guidelines clearly to all employees within the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to assess and predict potential risks and recommend essential remedial measures.
- Experience establishing emergency plans and educating all employees on how to handle such situations Experience as a liaison with the fire department regarding emergency procedures, communications and fire safety education programs.
- Experience providing health and safety awareness across all levels and departments of the organization. Experience preparing budget proposals for the operation of health and safety measures, programs and other requirements.
- Knowledge of preparing, reviewing and updating the appropriate sections of the company’s emergency procedures.
