Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Define, integrate, and communicate the vision for Architecture, Infrastructure, and DX, ensuring alignment with business objectives, product strategies, and long-term R&D priorities.
- Architecture Governance: Establish and oversee architectural principles, frameworks, and standards that drive consistency, security, scalability, and resilience across all engineering teams and product lines.
- Infrastructure & Operations: Shape the evolution of cloud infrastructure, networking, observability, and platform reliability. Ensure cost efficiency, performance, compliance, and operational excellence across a globally distributed SaaS environment.
- Developer Experience (DX): Champion and improve developer productivity and workflows through tooling, automation, CI/CD pipelines, frameworks, and best practices that enable faster, safer, and higher-quality software delivery.
- Leadership: Provide strong and decisive leadership across Architecture, Infrastructure, and DX. Build, mentor, and scale high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement. Set clear expectations, drive alignment, and make tough decisions to ensure organizational success.
- Cross-Functional Influence: Partner with engineering, product, design, and security leaders to ensure seamless integration of architecture, infrastructure, and DX priorities into roadmaps, investments, and customer outcomes.
- Technology Innovation: Stay ahead of emerging technologies and industry trends in cloud, distributed systems, DevOps, and developer platforms. Evaluate opportunities to drive differentiation and maintain UserTesting’s competitive edge.
- Scalability & Performance: Guide, design and operationalize decisions that enable rapid growth while ensuring system reliability, resilience, and customer satisfaction.
- M&A Activity: Provide architectural due diligence and integration strategy for mergers and acquisitions. Assess technology stacks, identify risks, and design integration roadmaps to ensure seamless consolidation of systems, infrastructure, and development practices while preserving business continuity and unlocking long-term value.
- Enterprise Tooling & Systems: Evaluate and influence adoption of enterprise-wide tooling and systems — including those used by other departments — ensuring scalability, integration, and alignment with the company’s broader technology strategy
- Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate risks across architecture, infrastructure, and developer workflows, balancing innovation with compliance, governance, and security.
- Communication & Advocacy: Serve as a thought leader internally and externally, representing UserTesting’s technical vision with executives, partners, industry forums, and the developer community.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with at least 7+ years in senior leadership roles spanning architecture, infrastructure, or developer experience.
- Proven track record of strong and decisive leadership, including making high-impact decisions, setting clear direction, and leading organizations through periods of growth and ambiguity.
- Demonstrated success in scaling large, complex SaaS platforms and aligning technical strategy with business outcomes.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), APIs, data platforms, and observability.
- Strong background in developer platforms, CI/CD, automation, and developer productivity practices.
- Knowledge of enterprise-grade security, compliance, and governance frameworks.
- Experience building, scaling, and inspiring multiple high-performing technical teams across diverse domains.
- Experience evaluating and selecting enterprise-wide tooling and systems, including for non-engineering departments, to ensure alignment with architectural principles and long-term scalability.
- Experience supporting M&A due diligence and post-merger integration from a technology and architectural perspective, ensuring seamless alignment of systems, infrastructure, and development practices.
- Exceptional collaboration and influence skills, with a history of establishing credibility and trust across engineering, product, and executive leadership.
- Excellent communication and storytelling ability; adept at framing complex technical strategies in terms of business impact and organizational outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
