We are looking for a talented Materials Science Engineer to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Engineering Meritor Materials Department in Cameri, Italy.

This role will require around 5% of domestic and international travel frequency.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Drive Product Reliability through Failure Analysis: Perform fracture analysis on failed parts to identify root causes and recommend improvements in design or processes.
  • Ensure Metallurgical Quality and Compliance: Conduct PPAP approvals and metallurgical analyses to ensure materials meet required specifications and standards.
  • Standardize and Elevate Lab Practices: Develop and implement best practices in the lab to improve testing efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Support Cross-Functional Engineering Solutions: Provide materials expertise to departments like Quality, Engineering, and Procurement to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Advance Innovation and DMO Projects: Contribute to innovation and manufacturing optimization projects by applying materials science knowledge.
  • Monitor and Improve Heat Treatment Processes: Track and assess heat treatment capabilities across EU plants to ensure process consistency and material performance.
  • Maintain Critical Documentation and KPIs: Lead documentation control for metallurgical procedures and track key performance indicators to support continuous improvement.
  • Foster Strong Internal and External Relationships: Build effective collaborations with internal teams and suppliers to ensure smooth communication and issue resolution.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Strong Technical Foundation: Solid knowledge of materials science, fracture mechanics, heat treatment processes, and metallurgical analysis techniques to perform diagnostics and propose improvements. Knowledge and/or experience in coatings, paints, and polymers is also valued in this area.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to conduct root cause analysis, interpret test results, and resolve complex metallurgical and manufacturing issues effectively.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Strong collaboration and communication skills to work with departments like Quality, Engineering, Procurement, and Suppliers, ensuring alignment and smooth execution.
  • Attention to Detail and Documentation: Precision in writing technical reports, managing documentation, tracking KPIs, and maintaining databases to support quality and compliance.

Education/ Experience:

  • College, university, or equivalent bachelor’s degree in engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Entry level/Early career professional. Preferred candidates would have relevant experience working in either a temporary student employment environment (intern, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities) or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline area. Knowledge of MS Office tools is also preferred.
