We're looking for a talented Product Designer to join us to help define and design compelling experiences that empower people to achieve more together. You will shape the direction of the core communication and collaboration experiences for Microsoft Teams, the chat-based collaboration app that is changing how people work together.


Our design team is a highly collaborative group of user researchers, engineers, product managers, and product designers. We value creativity, open idea sharing, and having fun while we work. Most of all, we’re motivated by our millions of users. We want them to love our products.

We are looking for an experienced product designer that can conceptualize the big picture as well as drive detailed design development for collaboration and communications user experiences. You should have a proven record of innovative thinking, a history of using design to drive new ideas and the ability to support others in making informed design choices.

At the core of this job, candidates will help work directly with other designers, product managers, researchers and engineers inside of Microsoft to drive shared experiences inside and outside of the Teams app, as well as improve the general craftsmanship of the product in a tactical way across mobile and desktop. A particular focus of this role is defining the way that users interact with Artificial Intelligence-based experiences, a key priority for Microsoft going forward. Candidates will be working very closely with developers to implement user-centered, well-crafted, design-led solutions.

Candidates must be able to articulate their thinking using a variety of mediums from design mocks, interaction flows to detailed prototypes and specifications. Candidates will need to show attention to detail and passion in the work produced.

Responsibilities

  • Support the creation of wireframes, journey maps, task flows, and personas to inform user-centered design solutions.
  • Assist in developing interaction models and detailed designs for new and existing features across platforms, delivering artifacts at varying levels of fidelity.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to share design details, assist in QA, and iterate on solutions during implementation to ensure usability and quality.
  • Participate in brainstorming and feedback sessions to refine design outcomes, considering user needs, technical constraints, and business goals.
  • Share design rationale with teammates and stakeholders, building confidence in presenting work and connecting design choices to user and business impact.
  • Maintain organization and attention to detail while delivering high-quality design artifacts in a collaborative and inclusive team environment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field
  • Experience in software and visual design, including proficiency in Figma and ability to deliver user-centered design solutions.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and users to inform design decisions through research, prototyping, and feedback.
  • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience applying design thinking to solve product or service challenges).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 1+ year(s) of relevant internship or work experienceOR Bachelor’s Degree in the same fields AND 2+ years of related work experienceOR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience applying design thinking to solve product or service challenges).
  • Experience using prototyping tools (e.g., Figma) to communicate design intent and iterate on user experiences.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams to implement and test design solutions.
  • Experience presenting design rationale and user insights to cross-functional teams, including senior stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with mobile design principles and accessibility standards.
  • Communication and collaboration skills that support consensus-building and inclusive decision-making.

Product Design IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $67,100 - CAD $131,400 per year.
