Position Overview:
Powder Mountain is seeking a skilled and proactive Senior Paralegal to support the Chief Legal Officer and lead the daily operations of our in-house legal department. This role serves as a central legal resource, supporting a wide range of functions including resort operations, real estate development, compliance, and corporate governance. This is a temporary position, expected to begin early January and last approximately 3-4 months.
The Senior Paralegal will take a strategic and holistic approach to managing legal workflows, driving operational efficiency, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the legal function. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Experience in real estate, contract management, corporate legal matters, and in-house legal operations is strongly preferred.
Requirements
Paralegal Responsibilities
Contract Management & Legal Documentation
- Prepare, review, and manage contracts including vendor agreements, leases, purchase and sale agreements, and development agreements.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date legal files and contract management systems.
- Format, notarize, and route legal documents for signature.
Real Estate & Transactional Support
- Support real estate transactions, including title review, document organization, transaction coordination, and post-closing documentation.
- Liaise with title companies and other external parties related to real estate matters.
- Monitor key dates and deliverables related to legal and real estate matters (e.g., renewal deadlines, option periods, escrow releases).
Corporate Governance & Compliance
- Prepare and maintain corporate governance documents such as resolutions, consents, and meeting minutes.
- Assist with permitting, regulatory filings, and compliance related to real estate, corporate, risk management, and general business operations.
- Provide support to the homeowner’s association with respect to corporate matters and design guideline enforcement.
Cross-Functional Legal Coordination
- Coordinate with internal teams (operations, development, membership, finance) to ensure legal compliance and support business objectives.
- Manage contracts tied to purchasing through the finance department.
- Coordinate with the finance and development teams on development-related contracts using the Procore construction system.
- Assist with membership agreements and updates to the private club’s membership plan.
Legal Research & Administrative Support
- Conduct legal research and summarize findings for internal stakeholders.
- Provide general administrative support to the Chief Legal Officer.
Systems & Process Management
- Manage legal department systems, tools, and workflows to improve efficiency and tracking.
- Oversee contract lifecycle management (CLM) processes including intake, templates, execution, and repository organization.
Financial Operations & Vendor Management
- Assist with department budgeting and invoice review.
- Track and manage outside counsel spend, ensuring alignment with corporate financial goals.
- Serve as liaison with external counsel on billing and operational processes.
Governance, Compliance & Risk Management
- Support corporate governance tasks, including entity management and regulatory filings.
- Partner with internal teams on records retention, data privacy compliance, and legal risk assessments.
Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Maintain dashboards and legal metrics for reporting on project status, team workload, and resource allocation.
Qualifications:
- A paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program is a plus but not required.
- 3+ years of paralegal and/or legal operations experience, ideally with exposure to legal operations, law firm management, or in-house legal department operations, and real estate, corporate, or hospitality industries.
- Strong knowledge of legal concepts related to contracts, property law, and corporate governance.
- Deep understanding of legal technology platforms (e.g., CLM, document management, entity management).
- Strong analytical acumen with excellent project management and communication skills.
- Proactive, collaborative, and highly organized with a problem-solving mindset.
- Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, document management platforms (e.g., DocuSign, SharePoint, or similar), and legal matter management applications.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Passion for the outdoors is a plus
