Description
We are seeking a motivated and mechanically inclined intern to join our maintenance team. This internship is designed for individuals interested in learning diesel and heavy-truck maintenance while supporting daily shop operations. You will gain hands-on experience in preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs, and work closely with experienced technicians. Candidates who demonstrate strong work ethic, technical growth and teamwork may be considered for a full-time offer at the conclusion of the internship.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Technical Training & Hands-On Learning
- Team Integration & Shop Support
- Work closely with lead technicians to maintain a safe, efficient, and organized shop.
- Participate in regular check-ins with the supervisor to review progress and receive feedback.
- Contribute as a team player to help the department operate efficiently.
- Learn to complete work orders and all required documentation accurately.
- Perform truck services, including proper greasing and routine maintenance.
- Develop a basic understanding of hydraulic systems and related components.
- Assist with servicing brakes, performing brake jobs, and gaining proficiency in air-brake and ABS systems.
- Use the diagnostic program Tech Tool to identify and repair engine, transmission, DEF and DPF codes.
- Read electrical diagrams and assist in troubleshooting electrical problems.

Education/Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- Enrollment in a diesel technology, automotive technology, or related mechanical program is a plus.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Basic understanding of tools, materials, and safety practices used in truck maintenance.
- Effective communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
- Demonstrated work ethic and reliability.
Work Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years in age or older.
- Must pass post-offer employment drug testing, medical exams, and physical agilities testing.
- Driving record must not cause an adverse insurance risk rating or premium increase, and not have any moving violations over the past three years.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and/or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Must be willing to occasionally work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.

- The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment.

- Able to use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
- The employee must have the strength, mobility, agility, and balance to ascend access ladders and steps, and to maneuver on equipment and vehicles without assistance.
- Must be able to exert up to 10-20 lbs constantly to move objects, 25-50 lbs of force frequently and 50-100 lbs of force occasionally.
- Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Able to work in all weather conditions.

- Work schedule is Monday through Friday with weekend and some holiday and evening work required. Generally, 40 hours per week.
