Plant Health Diagnostic Lab Intern 

Your Tasks and Responsibilities 

The primary responsibilities of this role are to: 

Assist with sample preparation for diagnostic evaluation;

Conduct morphological observations and microscopic evaluations;

Execute diagnostic tests including culturing of fungi and bacteria;

Carry out serological assays such as immunostrip and ELISA procedures;

Perform molecular tests and analysis;

Prepare and keep long-term storage of samples;

Ensure proper data management and organization of laboratory records;

Mini Project: Corn Stunt Analysis: The intern will undertake a mini project focused on corn stunt disease. This project involves observing and documenting the symptomatology of different plant parts and correlating these observations with molecular analysis. The intern will analyze and identify relationships between corn stunt symptoms and positive detection, or varying levels of pathogen quantification using qPCR. This project aims to deepen understanding of the disease and improve diagnostic accuracy.

         

Required Qualifications

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Current PhD student enrolled in a relevant degree program (e.g., Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Plant Sciences, Agriculture, etc);
  • Strong experience of disease diagnostic laboratory procedures and safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of $46.30. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..  This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
