In November 2015, STAT was launched as a new national media brand focused on health, medicine, and life sciences. Job Description:
This person will organize, create, and moderate STAT live events around the country with important figures in health and medicine, as well as virtual events. Though this role is grounded in editorial, this person will also take part in shaping the business strategy for STAT events. This live journalism will be the foundation of this role. But this person will also report and write deep profiles of figures in biotech and other fields we cover.
Responsibilities:
- Conceive, organize and moderate STAT live events around the country with important figures in health and medicine.
- Conceive of and moderate a regular virtual event series with players in science and biotech.
- Work with editorial and business teams to plot strategy to build STAT's events business.
- Be a high-profile representative of STAT at events around the country.
- Write regular, deep profiles of important figures in biotech, and health and medicine writ large.
- Serve as a utility player to help from time to time augment our biotech coverage.
Qualifications:
- At least 12 years of experience as a reporter covering biotech and related fields.
- A deep command and fluency in publicly discussing complex science and business matters.
- A dynamic public speaker who has a track record for impressive TV, radio, and event moderation.
- An understanding of STAT's digital strategy and ability to help us build on that strategy and appeal to sponsors.
- A top flight reputation in the industry that would help us land high-level decision-makers and C-suite executives to speak at our events.
- Superior writing and reporting skills, and ability to write stories that will drive STAT's subscription growth.
- A reputation as one of the best sourced and leading journalists in biotech.
The STAT office is located in downtown Boston, nearby Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines. We have colleagues in the organization that come into the office on a regular basis and colleagues that are based in various cities throughout the US. For this role, we will consider candidates who are based anywhere in the United States.
