Role Overview
MARA is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the design, integration, and deployment of our compute systems and our modular, containerized data center (MDC) initiative. This leader will oversee a small but high-impact team and collaborate closely with product management, strategic sourcing, and vendor partners to deliver compute systems that meet performance, cost, deployability and reliability targets. The Engineering Manager will be accountable for technical execution across specification, procurement, integration, deployment, and ongoing support/maintenance, while also evaluating and evolving MARA’s ASIC and cooling technology portfolio to ensure long-term competitiveness.
Responsibilities
- Lead the compute systems hardware engineering team, providing direction, coaching, and accountability.
- Translate PRD/PRFAQ requirements into engineering execution plans, ensuring alignment with business and product objectives.
- Drive vendor selection, procurement, and integration of third-party technologies (power, cooling, networking, compute enclosures).
- Evaluate and evolve MARA’s ASIC and cooling portfolio in collaboration with product and strategy teams, ensuring optimal performance, efficiency, and scalability.
- Partner with Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain to manage procurement strategy, vendor qualification, and cost optimization.
- Own technical program management for MDC builds from concept to deployment, balancing cost, schedule, and quality.
- Define and enforce engineering standards, testing/validation procedures, and operational readiness criteria.
- Collaborate with the Product Manager to prioritize features, manage tradeoffs, and align delivery milestones with roadmap.
- Ensure post-deployment support, monitoring, and maintenance processes are established and executed effectively.
Qualifications
- 8+ years in data center engineering, modular/edge compute infrastructure, or related fields.
- Proven experience managing small, cross-functional engineering teams.
- Deep understanding of power systems, networking, cooling technologies (including immersion/advanced methods), and compute integration.
- Familiarity with ASIC evaluation, roadmap planning, and integration into high-performance compute environments.
- Strong vendor management, negotiation, and program execution skills.
- Ability to balance strategic direction with hands-on technical problem solving.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and business stakeholders, especially product and supply chain.
