About The Role

The Systems Engineering Team Lead is responsible for managing a team of skilled engineers and ensuring the successful delivery of engineering artefacts throughout the product lifecycle. Reporting to the Systems Engineering and Integration Manager, the role blends technical expertise with strategic oversight, guiding investigations, documentation, and compliance with engineering standards. It involves planning and monitoring engineering activities, making multi-domain decisions, and maintaining secure technical records. The Team Lead also plays a key role in mentoring staff, driving process improvements, and contributing to business development through bid preparation and stakeholder engagement. With a strong focus on safety, innovation, and collaboration, this role is essential to building and sustaining Babcock’s engineering capability.

About You

You have a strong foundation in systems engineering, with the experience and confidence to lead a multidisciplinary team through complex technical challenges. Your background includes planning and delivering engineering activities across the full lifecycle, producing and reviewing high-quality documentation, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and statutory regulations. You’re comfortable making decisions that span multiple engineering domains and have a solid grasp of design, analysis, manufacturing, and support techniques. You’re also a capable communicator, able to present technical information clearly to internal and external stakeholders. Beyond technical expertise, you’re committed to mentoring others, driving continuous improvement, and contributing to sustainable, innovative solutions that benefit both the organisation and the wider community.

To be successful in this position you will bring:

  • Australian Citizenship with a Defence security clearance (or the ability to obtain one)
  • Hold an accredited (under the Washington Accord) bachelor’s degree in engineering or hold the recognised engineering qualifications to be eligible to obtain Professional Engineer category Membership through a recognised body.
  • Membership of a relevant engineering body, preferably with chartered status
  • Demonstrated relevant experience in relatable technical / engineering roles
  •  A good understanding of applicable engineering toolsets (e.g. PLM or MRP systems, design, simulation and analysis software)
