The Team
The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub San Francisco (CZ Biohub SF) (https://www.czbiohub.org/sf/) is an independent nonprofit research institute that brings together three powerhouse universities - Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco - into a single collaborative technology and discovery engine. CZ Biohub SF itself supports some of the brightest, boldest engineers, data scientists, and biomedical researchers to investigate the fundamental mechanisms underlying disease and develop new technologies that will lead to actionable diagnostics and effective therapies. We are guided by our values of scholarly excellence; disruptive innovation; hands-on engineering/hacking/building; partnership and collaboration; open communication and respect; inclusiveness; and opportunity for all.
Our Vision
- We pursue large scientific challenges that cannot be pursued in conventional environments
- We enable individual investigators to pursue their riskiest and most innovative ideas
- The technologies developed at CZ Biohub San Francisco facilitate research by scientists and clinicians at our home institutions and beyond
Diversity of thought, ideas, and perspectives are at the heart of CZ Biohub Network and enable disruptive innovation and scholarly excellence. We are committed to cultivating an organization where all colleagues feel inspired and know their work makes an important contribution.
The Opportunity
The Jacobo Group is building an interdisciplinary team of researchers with experience in biology, physics, computer science, and microscopy. We are looking for a Research Associate to join us and be an integral part of this effort. Our group wants to study, at a quantitative level, how cell-cell communication leads to the formation of organs in a self-organizing process. To do so we will use zebrafish as a model system and combine cutting-edge live microscopy, gene editing techniques, deep-learning-based data analysis, and mathematical modeling.
What You'Ll Do
Under the mentorship and guidance of senior researchers –
- Help us maintain our zebrafish colony
- Create and maintain a library of cell lines as needed for various studies
- Generate transgenic lines using state-of-the-art techniques
- Conduct live imaging experiments while contributing their ideas to research projects
What You'Ll Bring
Essential –
- BS/BA (or equivalent) with prior laboratory experience
- 1 year hands-on experience in molecular biology
- Must be a dedicated team player who can also work independently
- Attention to detail and very strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and work both independently and collaboratively across platforms
Nice to have -
- Prior work with zebrafish is preferred, especially with the generation of transgenic lines and microinjections
- Prior experience with confocal microscopy
Compensation
The San Francisco, CA base pay range for a new hire in this role is Research Associate I = $52,000.00 - $77,000.00 and Research Associate II = $67,000.00 - $99,000.00. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
