As bp transitions to an integrated energy company, we must adapt to a changing world and maintain driven performance. bp’s customers & products (C&P) business area is setting up a business and technology centre (BTC) in Pune, India. This will support the delivery of an enhanced customer experience and drive innovation by building global capabilities at scale, using technology, and developing deep expertise. The BTC will be a core and connected part of our business, bringing together colleagues who report into their respective part of C&P, working together with other functions across bp. As a Macro and Micro Space Planner, you’ll play a key role in shaping the in-store experience across bp’s UK retail network. You’ll collaborate with the Branded Buying Teams, Food Service, Offer Development & Sustainability teams, and other UK stakeholders to deliver the “right space, right range, right place” and layout for every store format—ensuring our customers enjoy a safe, efficient, and engaging shopping experience.
This role is pivotal in delivering bp’s customer-first merchandising strategy. You’ll apply bp’s merchandising principles to optimise space, enhance customer experience, and support commercial performance.
What You Will Deliver:
Develop and maintain customer centric, operationally efficient, and safe Planograms and Floorplans tailored to store formats, clusters, and customer missions.
- • Apply bp’s merchandising principles, including:
- – Minimum Credible Range (MCR)
- – Good, Better, Best product hierarchy
- – Minimum Facings, Days’ Supply, and Case Quantities
- – Shelf Ready Packaging (SRP) where appropriate
- – Category and merchandising group adjacencies
- Ensure compliance with bp’s safety and legal standards in all merchandising layouts.
- Use tools like the Rate of Sale (ROS) report to inform space allocation decisions.
- Collaborate with Category Buyers, M&S, and other stakeholders to align on range, space, and display.
- Support seasonal, promotional, and construction-driven layout changes with agile planogram updates.
- Work in collaboration with M&S to manage seasonal changes for chilled space, four times per year, enabling stores to adjust their ranges to meet differing trends.
- Manage dual-siting strategies and promotional planograms to drive cross-category sales.
- Support new initiatives through a managed suite of planograms and floorplans that can be applied to stores to deliver the offer.
- Deliver analysis on product and department space to make recommendations where space improvements or product changes are needed as part of a cyclical range review approach.
- Update and maintain floorplans to reflect new space, layouts, and equipment changes, ensuring a balanced approach to total space across all store formats, especially in company-owned sites.
- Deliver store layouts that adjust space to meet customer needs based on location, store size, and seasonality.
- Support development programmes by providing updated floorplans aligned with construction timelines, including interim layouts where needed.
- Ensure planograms and floorplans are delivered correctly and compliantly to stores—visually impactful, easy to implement, and safe for both customers and colleagues.
- Maintain and distribute planograms and floorplans online, providing feedback and updates to store requests via TSOL (Trading Support Online Portal).What you will need to be successful:
- Experience in FMCG or convenience retail space planning.• Strong understanding of category management and merchandising principles.• Micro / Macro Space Planning Experience would be beneficial.• Proficiency in JDA (Blue Yonder) Intactix Space Planning, Floor Planning and IKB / CKB, SAP.• Ability to interpret Customer Decision Trees (CDT's) and apply them to planogram design.• Excellent level of numeracy, analytical skills and attention to detail.• Strong collaboration and relationship management skills.• Retail Standards, Policies and Procedures.
