General Summary
Works under the supervision of the Biomedical Engineering Manager. The Biomedical Engineering Technician I's primary job function is to test, repair, and calibrate medical equipment per manufacturer or hospital recommendations using all safety precautions. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
- Associate degree in medical electronics, electro-mechanical engineering technology, biomedical technology, or related field required.
- Completion of Nurse Call or Patient Monitor technical training course required within 2 years.
- Completion of 2 virtual/online technical training classes required within 2 years.
- Completion of a medical terminology class and the SOMC arrhythmia class is required.
Licensure:
- BMVL required (Must maintain eligibility to drive as determined by SOMC insurance carriers)
- AAMI Certification preferred
- BLS within 90 days of hire required
Experience:
- Two years of related experience preferred
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
- Completes scheduled clinical equipment and preventive maintenance inspections following the SOMC Planned Maintenance (PM) Compliance Policy.
- Completes service calls and repairs in a timely manner.
- Maintains and supports clinical monitoring systems, nurse call systems, and other associated networks.
- Demonstrates medical equipment repairs and reports incidents following The Joint Commission recommendations
- Educates and supports clinical staff on the proper use of clinical equipment.
- Supports department staff education.
- Provides clinical engineering support to all SOMC off-site locations.
- Establishes work priorities ensuring efficient utilization of work time.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
