Position Summary

Harness is on the lookout for a dynamic Software Engineering Manager to spearhead our Billing & Licensing initiatives within the Platform Engineering Organization. This is not just another role—it’s an opportunity to build something truly transformative from the ground up.

You’ll be leading a distributed team across multiple geographies, tackling a greenfield project designed to process millions of events daily while delivering a seamless, AWS-like billing experience for our customers.

We’re searching for a leader who’s not only seasoned in backend development (Java) but also eager to roll up their sleeves and stay hands-on with platform-level coding. About The Role

We’re building the future of Billing & Licensing at scale—and we want you at the helm. As an Engineering Manager, you won’t just manage projects; you’ll shape the core architecture of a platform designed to handle millions of events with sub-second response times. This is about building mission-critical infrastructure that rivals the scale and sophistication of world-class platforms like AWS.
You’ll work side by side with brilliant engineers and architects, making key technology decisions that power multi-tenant, high-concurrency, low-latency, and secure data access. You’ll own the entire stack—architecture, development, deployment, sustainability, and production operations—and ensure it performs at its peak.
As a technical leader, you’ll drive code quality, performance, and best practices, ensuring every line of code is reliable, scalable, and production-ready. Beyond execution, you’ll define and evolve the technical vision, build roadmaps that anticipate the future, and inspire your teams to push boundaries.
This isn’t just about running a team—it’s about building a platform that defines how enterprises experience billing at scale.

About You

Proven Leader: 3+ years leading high-performing engineering teams, balancing technical depth with people leadership.
Builder’s Mindset: 5+ years building SaaS applications in backend (Java/Go) roles, with a passion for hands-on architecture and coding.
Organization Builder: A track record of assembling and scaling world-class engineering orgs.
Global Collaborator: Comfortable leading teams and working with customers across time zones.
Customer-Obsessed: You’ve directly influenced customer satisfaction and know what it takes to deliver mission-critical, customer-facing software.
Performance-Driven: Skilled in building data-intensive, low-latency systems that deliver seamless user experiences.
Battle-Tested: Strong command of managing production incidents and leading effective on-call rotations.
Technically Grounded: BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
