Role Overview
This position is responsible for the strategic sourcing across indirect procurement categories in Coupang. As a key role in Coupang’s procurement transformation, the position requires driving innovation, collaborate closely with key business stakeholders to solve ongoing challenges, manage categories, and lead strategic and operational sourcing initiatives, supplier management, and project execution.
The role applies strategic sourcing methodologies including cost analysis, short- and long-term category planning, supplier consolidation, and performance management. Coupang’s sourcing process spans multiple phases—from category strategy development, opportunity identification, bidding, contract negotiation, purchase order issuance, to implementation. This includes global market research, price and cost analysis, cost modeling, total cost of ownership (TCO) evaluation, industry trend analysis, and benchmarking.
This role requires cross-functional collaboration with operations, finance, legal, and other internal teams. The ultimate goal is to build and maintain strategic relationships with domestic and international suppliers, ensuring optimized service delivery at cost effective levels through continuous evaluation and improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic sourcing and supply base management for indirect procurement projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams across the organization.
- Drive cost savings through supplier consolidation, continuous improvement, and technology innovation, focusing on TCO, operational efficiency, and maintenance cost reduction.
- Identify process inefficiencies, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions to improve service quality and operational performance.
- Develop and manage RFX packages (RFI, RFP, RFQ) for assigned categories.
- Implement optimal sourcing solutions that balance quality, delivery, and cost, while establishing long-term procurement strategies.
- Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers, considering cost, quality, delivery, and support, aligned with Coupang’s Leadership Principles.
- Model and promote Coupang Leadership Principles to create an environment that empowers team members to achieve business goals.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in procurement or strategic sourcing
- Proven ability to identify key stakeholders and build strong cross-functional relationships
- Experience in developing and executing strategic sourcing plans based on internal business needs and external market dynamics
- Demonstrated success in negotiating and executing contracts aligned with business requirements and SLAs
- Ability to manage multiple sourcing projects simultaneously and track/report cost savings
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
- Fluent in both English and Korean
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or professional certifications in supply chain (e.g., CPSM, SPSM)
- Hands-on experience in indirect procurement or consulting industry
- Experience managing diverse categories, including global and low-cost country (LCC) sourcing
- Proficiency in eProcurement systems and a track record of driving innovation beyond conventional practices
