Job Description

Interested in spending your summer working with inspirational scientists, engaging in cutting-edge research, and learning about the complex dynamics of the pharmaceutical industry? An AbbVie Internship might be the perfect fit for you.

The Safety Pharmacology group at Abbvie focuses on identifying and evaluating the potential undesirable physiological effects of pharmaceutical compounds on vital organ systems, beyond their intended therapeutic effects. Our studies utilize a wide range of in vitro and in vivo experimental systems to identify any potential risks and help mitigate adverse effects. One of the key technologies we employ is the wire myograph system, which allows us to measure changes in the diameter of small blood vessels in response to compounds, aiding in the assessment of their potential effect on blood pressure. Our team is currently evaluating small blood vessels from various tissue types to identify a more predictive vascular bed for detecting adverse effects.

The successful applicant will learn techniques for blood vessel isolation and perfusion using the myograph system, along with the preparation of physiological solutions, compound formulation, and the use of data acquisition software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate across multiple departments at AbbVie, including Safety Pharmacology, Comparative Medicine, Pharmaceutics, and Toxicology.
  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments using the myograph system and various instruments.
