Job Description

Works with CDO leadership and key CDO partners, including Finance, RDSR, and HR to ensure the vision and objectives of the CDO organization are achieved. Strategic partnership to leaders to ensure they develop, amplify, and execute CDO strategies, while cultivating and promoting cultural attributes. Reports into the Director, Business Operations and works directly with and as delegate for CDO VP Lead and CDO leadership team. This dual relationship helps to ensure cross-departmental collaboration and connectivity to functional operational strategies· Responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and driving exceptional departmental performance· Provide strategic input in the development of CDO/business area vision, strategic priorities, and financial and resourcing analysis· Design, oversight, and execution of business management routines, including strategic planning, financial, internal and external engagement, hiring strategy and resource management and review· Ensures cross-functional linkage & influence between department and partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as business operations team member working closely with CDO Chief of staff and leadership. Oversees the collection, synthesis, and communication of relevant information that informs the departmental and functional CDO financial, resourcing, and strategic vision.
  • Responsible for overarching strategy and working day to day with the designated Business Operations leader. The right candidate must be able to support and guide the leader to the overarching business priorities/strategies and goals.
  • Accountable for understanding the operational objectives, methods and processes set forth by the Clinical Development Operations organization and ensuring CDO leadership team understands and supports strategy. The candidate will create strong relationships with CDO leadership, chief of staff network, and key CDO partners. This ensures CDO works in collaboration vs. in departmental silos.
  • Works directly with leadership and peers to develop/strengthen relationships and partnership across clinical operations and functional teams, connects the dots across CDO and leverages AbbVie enterprise resources to develop, align, and advance strategy based on value and importance.
  • In partnership with CDO partners, designs, oversees, executes, and contributes to long-term financial, resourcing, and overall strategic planning and for function, using insight, research, and strong business acumen. Responsible for leading effort to develop functional priorities and goals aligned to overarching CDO strategies. Partners with leadership to make strategic decisions.
  • Identifies, plans, leads, and tracks priority activities and initiatives of strategic importance. Assists management in the selection of action plans that best meets business objectives. Anticipates and leads issue resolution.
  • Coordinates, and monitors department business management routines including performance metrics, operating reviews, and management reviews. Knows when to pull in the right business partners to functional conversations and activities. For example, connects the BPO (Business Process Owner) when discussing metrics and processes, or Change Management when significant changes need to occur. Ensures escalation and sustainable resolution and prevention of issues and deficiencies.
  • Maximizes opportunities to highlight best practices and shared learnings across CDO to reduce duplication of efforts/churn and engage functional leaders. In partnership with leadership team, develop and implement robust capability building resources to develop people leaders, strengthen network, and maximize the potential of the leaders/employees.
  • Liaison with other departments and functions within AbbVie to foster strategic partnerships, opportunity identification and realization, and issue resolution

Qualifications

  • Bachelor/master’s degree in science or Business-related Field, with 5+ years experience in a similar role (i.e. Chief of Staff)
  • Objective strategic thinker with a demonstrated drive for results
  • Analytical orientation and comfortable with ambiguity and complexity
  • Dependable, trusted leader who is used to dealing with confidential information
  • Ability to connect the dots and influence across a complex organization 
  • Excellent Emotional Intelligence (EQ) skills and relationship building experience
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and mentoring / coaching skills
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written, great at packaging information depending on audience
  • Basic knowledge of project management practices, portfolio review, finance, and budgeting .

Key Stakeholders: Clinical Development Operations Leadership Team, R&D Finance, R&D Strategic Resourcing, Business Human Resources and Talent Acquisition.
