Your Impact:

We are looking for a full-time Head of Engineering to help us build a securities API for financial institutions, the first API of that kind in Europe. You will lead the Brokerage Tribe, which comprises four teams. These teams are responsible for critical domains such as Orders, Trading Partner integrations, Position, and Wealth Management, all of which are essential for Upvest’s Investment API.

The Brokerage Tribe plays a crucial role in the Investment API Platform, overseeing a wide range of user journey aspects. This includes the placement and management of individual trading orders, the maintenance of corresponding securities and cash positions, and the administration of the complete universe of instruments available for trading on Upvest.

Furthermore, the Tribe is responsible for managing price data for both internal and external consumers, integrating with various external trading partners, and handling the settlement flows of executed trades. Beyond individual trading order infrastructure, the Tribe also delivers Wealth Management products, such as Investment Portfolios and Saving Plans.

What You’Ll Do:

• Assume ownership of business-critical components within the Investment API, influencing its roadmap and delivering strategic impact to establish Upvest as a reliable partner.
• Engage with internal and client stakeholders, including Product Engineering Teams, the Product Department, and the Operations Department, to ensure superior product and build quality, and to shape priorities, scopes, and staging of new products.
• Develop expertise in the Brokerage domain, acquiring a profound understanding of client use cases and needs.
• Collaborate closely with Product Engineering Teams to enable their autonomy while simultaneously enhancing efficiency through a broader perspective and cross-team coordination.
• Mentor and foster the growth of future Engineering leaders, leaving a lasting imprint on the organisation.
• Collaborate as a member of the Engineering Leadership team, contributing to various department-wide and organization-wide initiatives.

What You Bring:

• Ability to bridge strategic "why" with engineering solutions, actively discussing tradeoffs and proactively suggesting ideas, demonstrating a strong product engineering mindset.
• Strong interest in Upvest's product domains and a proactive desire to understand the business use cases Upvest enables for clients.
• Experience in leading and growing larger engineering teams in a technical leadership capacity.
• Prior experience within the Fintech domain.
• Strong technical expertise and hands-on experience in developing highly scalable, distributed, asynchronous, and resilient applications.
• Strong work ethic and principles such as pragmatism.
• A security-focused mindset and high sense of taking ownership.
• Eagerness to continuously learn and explore new technologies.
