Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Key responsibilities include building relationships with internal customers in Transportation and with rail union leaders, managing a heavy workload of labor claims, researching labor agreements with the ability to apply complex agreement provisions, and using multiple databases to research claims.
  • This position also serves as a liaison with field supervisors, Payroll, Workforce Management, Collective Bargaining, Finance, union representatives and other teams that support Transportation operations.
  • The successful candidate will also be responsible for researching, evaluating, and determining trends associated with requests for pay (traditionally referred to as penalty claims) from Transportation Crafts (TYE) employees.
  • Ability to work directly with stakeholders at all corporate levels to gather requirements about current processes and objectives, proposing more streamlined and automated solutions.
  • The ability to leverage technology to gather, analyze, and present actionable information that leadership can use to make tactical and strategic business decisions.
  • Familiarity with Transportation craft practices and labor agreements is helpful.
  • Some travel is required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A college degree is preferred but will substitute equivalent work experience with a minimum of 2 years of transferable railroad experience for an outstanding candidate.
  • Must be able to learn, analyze, and communicate labor agreement requirements.
  • Excellent oral and good written communication skills are essential.
  • Must be a self-starter and possess proven analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a team player and possess the ability to prioritize and complete time sensitive tasks and handle a heavy workload.
  • Written advocacy experience is beneficial
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications, specifically Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Research, reporting, and project management skills are important, including knowledge of basic systems where TYE pay data is maintained like Data Warehouse, the Expense Model, TMPE, and the DAR.
  • Experience building applications to automate and create efficiencies in Business processes.
  • Ability to query data across different platforms. Proficient in SQL; understand data tables such as Data Warehouse or DB2.
  • Experience with end-user reporting tools such as Tableau, SAS, Microsoft SSRS.
