We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to guide our engineering team and evolve our product. In this role, you will be a player-coach: a significant hands-on contributor to our codebase and a mentor responsible for the technical growth of a distributed team of junior and senior engineers. You will be an expert in our tech stack, drive technical decisions, and ensure we are building scalable, performant, and delightful user experiences.
Eligible candidates have and can work successfully in a small to mid-sized fast-paced, hyper-growth, SaaS start-up or scale-up. This is a full-time role and is eligible for candidates who are available to work in the Tampa office.

At Dnsfilter, You Will:
- Design and implement resilient, scalable architectures for our core product and services.
- Solve ambiguous and complex technical challenges within multiple systems.
- Proactively identify and champion innovation opportunities across teams, fostering a culture of experimentation to solve large-scale problems.
- Lead large-scale, cross-functional initiatives from conception to launch, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to enhance and deliver security products and platform enhancements.
- Shape the company's long-term technical strategy, translating high-level goals into actionable engineering roadmaps and making critical decisions that directly impact business outcomes.
- Define and own the technical success criteria for major projects, ensuring alignment with key metrics.
- Elevate the engineering organization's capabilities by mentoring engineers, establishing best practices, and fostering a culture of technical excellence through code and design reviews.
- Serve as a key technical advisor, regularly engaging with executives, strategic customers, and technology partners to align our technical vision with market needs.
- Represent DNSFilter as a technical thought leader at industry conferences or in webinars and play a crucial role in attracting and hiring top engineering talent.
To Qualify for this Role, You Have:
- Mastery of multiple languages, frameworks & tools
- Deep understanding of async programming
- Well-versed with the DNS protocol, including DoH, DoT, and EDNS0
- Is consistently up to date on relevant industry trends, technologies, and best practices
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure platforms, messaging technologies, and tools for monitoring and metrics.
- Expert-level knowledge on all areas and aspects of the SDLC
- Expert level in automated testing frameworks, best practices, and approaches/levels of testing
- Proven track record of exercising independent judgment when determining how to get results
- Successful experience working with others across the organization to help team members grow their understanding of their team’s domain and technology
- Ability to define and roll out organization-wide policies/standards
- Ability to impact overall business execution
- Can work in a hybrid office setting in the Tampa office
- Experience working with remote teams
- Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship from an employer now or in the future

The hiring base pay is dependent on several factors, including level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and geographic location. As a hybrid company, our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. and global geographic markets. We pay differently based on those defined markets.
