Axle is seeking a IT Operations Technical Lead to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Center for Advancing Translation Sciences (NCATS) located in Rockville, MD.

Overview
In this role, you will have the opportunity to design, implement, secure and enhance our on-prem and cloud infrastructure and systems. Your experience with IT Operations and Cloud Application support will be used to create roadmaps for operational efficiency, and maintenance. Working alongside other operations teams and development engineering teams, you will collaborate with colleagues and client team members supporting network and architecture assessment, Authorization to Operate (ATO), threat modeling, vulnerability assessment, and security operations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee On-Prem & Cloud daily technical operations
- Apply appropriate security measures to safeguard government systems by implementing industry-standard best practices adequately and NIH-mandated
- Assume a technical lead role in the administration and management of infrastructure solutions that are deployed on-prem and in all major cloud service provides in accordance with Security Guidelines
- Installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting applications and servers
- Performing operating system and software installation, testing, patching and upgrades
- Monitoring the Heath of internal environment and connections
- Research new technologies that are applicable to current projects and make recommendations to improve performance, optimize operations, and reduce costs
- Architecting and leading the migration of legacy On-Prem solution migrations to Cloud Environments with High Performance and reliability
- Assist in managing technology in projects and providing technical guidance or solutions for task completion
- Participate in technical discussions or review as a technical consultant for solutions feasibility studies (technical alternatives, best packages, supporting architecture best practices, technical risks, breakdown into components, estimations)
- Continuously collaborate with the Software Development teams in addressing Operational technical debt
- Conduct periodic security checks/audits in to ensure Environment compliance with Government guidance and directives
- Develop and guide team members in enhancing their technical capabilities and increasing productivity
Qualifications
- 8+ years of IT Operations experience
- 5+ years of supporting Cloud Services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or similar field
- Experience working with and securing cloud services such as AWS EC2, EKS, GuardDuty, ELB, ECS, IAM, S3, RDS, CloudTrail, CloudFront, and AWS Config
- Experience assessing the security of the cloud and Kubernetes environments
- Knowledge of ITSM tools such as ServiceNow or Remedy
- Demonstrated knowledge preparing guidance related to Cybersecurity best practices within the framework of NIST publications, ISO 2700 Series, CIS, OWASP, RMF, and the various control families within
- Experience configuring and maintaining monitoring tools, SIEM’s, IDSs, IPS, etc.
- Experience with a programming or scripting language such as Ruby, Go, or Python
- Knowledgeable on zero trust architecture concepts such as Google BeyondCorp

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
