The Opportunity

This position is an onsite opportunity in the Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) Division in Alameda, CA. We are helping people with diabetes lead healthier, happier lives. Consistent and accurate glucose monitoring is the foundation of any diabetes management plan, so we are committed to continuous improvement in the way patients and professionals measure, track and analyze glucose levels.

As a Senior Market Access Manager, you will support efforts to remove or lower barriers to patient access to Division products by developing and implementing strategies directed at healthcare providers, thought leaders, payers, health plans, public agencies and patient advocacy groups; ensure Market Access for current and pipeline Division products. Develop and implement market access and reimbursement tactical plans for new and existing drug-test combinations. Monitor relevant health policy developments (i.e., evidence-based medicine, HTA's) and provide meaningful guidance on opportunities and risks for product adoption and suggest actions to mitigate the risk. Work with public and private payers Medical and Actuarial Directors to negotiate coverage and payment.  This is an onsite opportunity in Alameda, CA.

What You’Ll Do

  • Coordinate and develop market access projects with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance on reimbursement research as well as patient advocacy efforts.
  • Manage deliverables such as reimbursement dossiers, reimbursement landscape analyses, consultant driven research projects.
  • Ensure that deliverables are accomplished on time and within budget.
  • Work with Global Market Access and Reimbursement, Global Marketing, R&D, Medical, Clinical, HEOR and selected consultants and KOL's to create effective channels of communication and gain support in the formation of the value proposition and the implementation of the strategy.
  • Assist in guiding the outcome of Health Technology Assessments, where they are used to determine coverage, coding and payment.
  • Focus placed upon removing or decreasing barriers to patient access will be a critical component of product adoption.
  • Help drive a market access strategy for Division products in key markets.
  • Accountabilities will include ensuring that public and private payers agree to provide coverage and payment at a rational level for current and pipeline products.
  • Part of the Global Market Access and Reimbursement team and will report to the Market Access person leading overall activities for the assigned geographical area.

Experience You’Ll Bring

Required

  • Bachelors Degree, desirable would be higher education in health studies, business or economics due to anticipated involvement in HEOR evidence creation to support reimbursement applications and an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Masters Degree Preferred
  • Minimum 8 years related work experience. 
  • 3 years in Market Access and Reimbursement for pharmaceutical products, medical devices or diagnostics, gained, ideally in more than one National healthcare delivery system.
  • Good working knowledge of market access and reimbursement pathways , health technology assessment, Health Economic and Outcomes Research (HEOR) as well as peer review publication strategies are highly desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is a must and one or more additional languages would be a plus.
