Job Description
The Lab Technician, Microbiology will assist Laboratory Technicians and Microbiologists with general tasks associated with maintaining a clean, efficient microbiology/sterility assurance lab. This is an entry-level position and is an opportunity to play a key role in the laboratory and learn the appropriate skills necessary to advance in the department.
- Primary responsibility will be assisting team leader in Microbial Identification process. This may include streaking plates, sorting and maintenance of microbial ID plates.
- Assist study directors in specific tasks related to the conduct of a given test or group of tests. This may include test preparation, proper application of test method(s), and data collection.
- Demonstrate willingness and ability to train on applicable general SOPs pertaining to microbiology/sterility testing.
- Become familiar with GMP/GLP/ISO requirements as these pertain to work performed in the microbiology lab.
- Assist in departmental efforts directed toward equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Provide support to study directors in their efforts to ensure that routine testing submitted by clients is completed within established parameters governing turnaround time, quality specifications, etc.
- Work together with staff to ensure that all reasonable client requests pertaining to the conduct of a given test are met in a timely and ultimately effective manner.
- Ensure that study directors working in the Microbiology/Sterility Assurance Department receive the help and cooperation needed to successfully complete their studies in a timely and effective manner.
- Participate in departmental or company-wide projects designed to improve the internal efficiency and overall quality of work performed in the laboratory.
- Assist and participate in departmental and/or company-wide projects designed to improve client services.
- Help and participate in creating and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork throughout the laboratory.
- Communicate with supervisors regarding progress of tests and/or assignments.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required
- 0-2 years of previous laboratory experience preferred
- Knowledge of basic microbiology preferred
