Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Logistics Transportation Manager with extensive experience in trucking and air freight operations, vendor management, and dangerous goods compliance. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and optimizing domestic and international transportation activities, ensuring cost-effective, timely, safe and compliant movement of goods across the supply chain, while managing the maintenance and operational readiness of all material handling and support equipment. This role requires deep expertise in KPI development, Lean Six Sigma methodologies, and contract negotiation to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.Role And Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day oversight of transportation operations and on-site equipment management at Samsung Austin Semiconductor, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient movement of materials between fabs, onsite, and offsite warehouses.
Manage vendor performance for trucking carriers and third-party transportation providers, ensuring adherence to schedules, service-level agreements, and operational KPIs.
Design, implement, and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate transportation performance, cost, and compliance.
• Lead the Request for Proposal (RFP) process for transportation services, including drafting requirements, evaluating bids, and selecting providers.
• Negotiate and manage service contracts, ensuring favorable terms and consistent service delivery.
• Oversee onsite equipment depot, including PMHE, golf carts, vehicles, fuel storage, and other material handling equipment; ensure proper maintenance, compliance with regulations, and safe operation.
• Create and maintain inter-site, inbound, and outbound shipment transportation schedules to optimize efficiency and meet customer and business needs.
• Conduct regular audits of transportation activities, equipment, and depot operations; investigate and resolve non-compliance, incidents, or operational deviations.
• Ensure strict adherence to HAZMAT regulations and maintain certifications with:
• U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)
• International Air Transport Association (IATA) – Dangerous Goods
• International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code
• Develop and maintain accurate reporting for equipment status, maintenance schedules, transportation movements, and regulatory compliance.
• Partner with site leadership and the Taylor Shipping & Receiving team to align logistics and transportation processes across the facility and neighboring Austin fab.
• Identify and implement process improvements using Lean Six Sigma principles to reduce waste, lower costs, and increase efficiency in transportation and equipment management.
• Utilize Microsoft Excel (advanced), PowerPoint, and Word to analyze data, create reports, and deliver executive presentations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including procurement, warehousing, compliance, and customer service to ensure smooth logistics operations.
• Other responsibilities as needed.
Skills And Qualifications
Education, Training, Certification(s) and Minimum # Years Required:
- • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- • Minimum 5–7 years of logistics and transportation management experience, including trucking and air freight, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or vendor-management role.
- • Proven success in vendor management, RFP processes, and contract negotiation.
- • Strong background in KPI development, tracking, and reporting.
- • Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- • Ability to work across multiple sites and coordinate complex logistics operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Software, Tools: List MOST important requirements first. Then, list soft skills and desired (but not required), experience:
- Valid certifications in: • DOT HAZMAT Shipping • IATA Dangerous Goods • IMDG Dangerous Goods
- Expertise in Lean Six Sigma, preferably Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent experience.• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros), PowerPoint (presentations), and Word (reporting/documentation).• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
The current base salary range for this role is between $82,610 - $156,950. Individual base pay rates will depend on factors including duties, work location, education, skills, qualifications and experience. Total compensation for this position will include a competitive benefits package and may include participation in company incentive compensation programs, which are based on factors to include organizational and individual performance.
