What You Will Do:
- Report and write news pieces, often on deadline, with an eye toward the daily newsletter.
- Cover news as it happens, including at courthouses, state legislatures, and other strategic locations within your assigned region.
- Pitch, develop and write analytical pieces and stories for the newsletter on complicated subjects like legal developments, making them accessible to readers
- Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.
- Establish strategic relationships with sources, editors, news desk, etc.
- Serve as a resource for other correspondents and Washington based reporters.
- Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
You Need To Have:
- Bachelor’s degree with coursework in English or journalism preferred.
- 8-12 years’ experience in journalism, including at least one year reporting on subject areas covered by assigned publications.
- Demonstrated knowledge of journalism principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.
- The ability to cover events live as they happen and meet with sources in-person within the location being covered.
