About This Job

Position Specific Summary

The Construction Inspector position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation & Mobility is responsible for coordinating and conducting site inspections to verify compliance with contracts, safety standards, and building codes. This position involves reviewing plans, collaborating with contractors, and ensuring projects meet deadlines and regulations.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Construction Inspection Supervisor. This position does not supervise.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Schedules and conducts inspections of construction sites to ensure that work is being carried out according to contract specifications, industry standards, and local building codes. Inspects construction materials, equipment, and techniques to ensure they align with approved designs and specifications. Reviews construction blueprints, plans and contract documents to understand project requirements and identify any potential issues before or during the construction process.
  • Drives to job sites and monitors construction activities to ensure that all work meets quality control requirements, safety regulations, and applicable laws. Identifies any discrepancies and ensures that corrective measures are taken.
  • Collaborates with contractors, engineers, and other construction personnel to address any concerns, compliance issues, and ensure project timelines are met. Identifies areas that do not meet contract specifications and advises project teams on corrective actions needed to bring work into compliance.
  • Drafts and submits detailed reports, including site observations, issues and corrective actions, maintaining accurate documentation of inspection results for future reference and compliance checks.
  • Ensures that all construction activities follow safety protocols and are conducted in a safe working environment, reporting any safety violations to leadership.
  • Supports review the final stages of construction to confirm that all work has been completed and that the site is ready for project completion or handover.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Six (6) months post high school
Experience: Four (4) years of directly related experience.
 
*Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
 
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License.

Preferred Qualifications
Certification in Construction Inspection or a related field.
Experience with construction methods, materials, and safety standards.
