Job Summary:

The Material Specialist is responsible for managing the procurement, inventory, and distribution of materials required for both production and maintenance processes at the plant. This role ensures that materials are available in the right quantity and quality, at the right time, and at the best cost, to support efficient operations and maintenance activities. The role also involves utilizing SAP for inventory management and procurement processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Material Procurement:

• Source and purchase materials required for production and maintenance.
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers.
• Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers to ensure cost-effective procurement.
• Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to delivery, quality, or pricing.
• Utilize SAP for creating purchase orders and tracking procurement activities.

Inventory Management:

• Maintain accurate inventory records and manage stock levels for both production and maintenance materials using SAP.
• Conduct regular inventory audits and cycle counts.
• Implement inventory control procedures to minimize waste and optimize stock levels.
• Coordinate with production planning and maintenance teams to forecast material requirements.

Quality Control:

• Inspect incoming materials for quality and compliance with specifications.
• Work with suppliers to address any quality issues.
• Ensure materials meet regulatory and safety standards.

Logistics And Distribution:

• Coordinate the storage and distribution of materials within the facility.
• Ensure timely delivery of materials to production and maintenance areas.
• Manage warehouse operations and optimize storage space.

Data Management And Reporting:

• Utilize SAP to track material usage and stock levels.
• Generate reports on inventory status, procurement activities, and supplier performance using SAP.
• Analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

Collaboration And Communication:

• Train and direct hourly warehouse attendants across multiple shifts.
• Work closely with production, planning, and maintenance teams to ensure material availability.
• Communicate effectively with suppliers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Participate in cross-functional meetings to discuss material requirements and issues.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in material management, procurement, or inventory control.
• Strong knowledge of inventory management principles and practices.
• Proficiency in SAP for inventory management and procurement processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.

Working Conditions:

• Work is typically performed in a warehouse or production environment.
• May require occasional overtime or weekend work to meet production and maintenance schedules.

Travel: 1-3 plus trips year
