Position Specifics
The Pennsylvania State University Office of Physical Plant is seeking a dedicated, organized, and enthusiastic individual to manage the Energy Savings Program (ESP) , which has historically saved the university millions of dollars and remains the largest contributor to the university’s greenhouse gas emissions reductions to date.
This position offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.
The successful candidate will be capable of:
- Developing positive working relationships with employees across Penn State
- Analyzing energy utilization data
- Making funding recommendations based on calculated energy savings
- Utilizing project management and energy analysis software
- Communicating conclusions verbally and in writing to various audiences
Experience with different energy savings funding mechanisms, including grant writing and management, is a plus. Understanding building systems, especially the highest energy-consuming building equipment (i.e., Labs, HVAC equipment), is essential. The successful candidate will also have an interest in continuously investigating new innovations in buildings and controls with the potential to save energy.
As a member of the Sustainability Team in the Office of Physical Plant, the position will also be involved in brainstorming, developing, and planning for direct carbon emissions reduction at University Park and all Commonwealth Campuses.
This position will develop and support energy savings programs university-wide at all campuses as part of the Sustainability team in the Office of Physical Plant. The position is currently funded for two years, with excellent chances of extension.
Responsibilities Include:
- Identification of energy conservation opportunities
- Prioritization of facilities to be included in Energy Savings Performance (ESP) projects
- Coordination with Capital, Utilities, and Major Maintenance projects and budgets
- Seeking and managing outside funding opportunities
- Opportunity to manage student interns
- Supporting project leaders in feasibility, planning, and budgeting
- Reviewing drawings and documents of other engineers; providing comments and critiques
- Participating in development and leading energy-related programs and initiatives across college or University units (internally) or governmental agencies (externally)
- Seeking funding for programs and projects
- Authoring/co-authoring and presenting papers, proposals, presentations, and reports
- Understanding and contributing to the strategic plan of the unit
- Possibly preparing materials and teaching workshops and short courses
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or related discipline
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are desired
