A Day In The Life

Position Title Senior HRBP (Tokyo)

Working Location Shinagawa HQ

<Main Responsibilities>

This position will report to HR leader Japan & ANZ enabling our talent strategies across Japan. This position will be a critical role in Japan HR leadership team partnering with our CoE leads and providing coaching / mentoring to our wider Japan HR community. This position will provide HR strategic partnership to senior leaders across our commercial business in Japan.

Your Responsibilities Include The Following:

  • Designs, implements and executes human resources strategies for business unit and functional groups.
  • Partners with business operations to ensure a complete understanding of business needs and objective and proactively resolves HR and business issues.
  • Provides solutions through organizational effectiveness and employee life cycle management.
  • Anticipates and plans for long-term human resource needs and trends in partnership with business management.
  • Responsible for and/or serves as a HR liaison in key projects.

<Must Haves>

Job Experience

  • Broad management knowledge and experience to lead project teams in one department.
  • Prior experience supporting teams in the medical technology, medical devices, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and familiarity with HR practices in a regulated environment (FDA, ISO, or equivalent).
  • Proven success influencing and partnering with senior leaders in a complex, global, and highly technical organization.
  • Collaborate with HR Centers of Excellence to implement compensation, benefits, learning, and talent development programs tailored to the medtech workforce.
  • Act as a change champion for organizational initiatives, including culture-building, engagement, and transformation projects.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion to ensure an inclusive, high-performance environment.
  • Experience in organizational design, talent management, leadership development, and change management.

Skill / Knowledge

  • Proficient English both spoken and written.
  • 8–10+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3–5 years in a senior HRBP or equivalent role.

  • Strong business acumen and ability to align HR strategy with business needs in a science- and technology driven environment.
  • Exceptional communication, coaching, and influencing skills with the ability to partner effectively at all levels.
  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to use analytics to inform decision-making.
  • High emotional intelligence, discretion, and ethical judgment.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and balance strategic priorities with hands-on problem-solving.

Education

  • Bachelor Degree preferrable HRM; Org Dev; Business Management.

<Working Style>

This role requires commuting to the office approximately 2~3 times a week.
