Job Description:

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Patient Care Manager of Outpatient and Community Mental Health, the Mental Health Therapist will provide specialized comprehensive services to the Outpatient Mental Health Program at SNH and act as a Mental Health Therapist providing counselling and support to Outpatients. This role will be primarily based out of Pathways Clinic on Nielson Rd, however must be flexible to work at all SNH locations, should the need arise.
This position is ideal for a Mental Health Therapist with a passion for working with the Tamil community to provide therapy through individual and group sessions.


Responsibilities:
The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for:
• connecting with Tamil speaking patients who are referred to the service
• Providing cognitive and behavioural therapy, group counselling and psychoeducation according to a variety of theoretical models and best practices
• establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships based on trust with patients and their families; participating in case conferences/meetings with patients, family, service providers and members of the interprofessional team
• collaboration and clinical support to colleagues to meet the needs of the patient population serviced and to provide integration and continuity across the care continuum
• demonstrating an ability to be sensitive to cultural and ethical issues

Requirements:
• Master’s degree in an appropriate field and member of a regulated health profession
• Must be able to fluently speak, read, write and understand the Tamil language
• At least 5 years of previous experience working in mental health
• Sound working knowledge of current hospital functions, current trends in health care and evidence based therapies

QUALIFICATION:
• Master’s degree in an appropriate field and member of a regulated health profession
• Must be able to fluently speak, read, write and understand the Tamil language
• At least 5 years of previous experience working in mental health
• Sound working knowledge of current hospital functions, current trends in health care and evidence based therapies
• Previous experience applying Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
• Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and to assess situations and problems efficiently and effectively
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in both English and Tamil
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills
• Ability to work well within an inter-professional team and to foster effective working relationships
• Ability to exercise initiative and observe strict confidentiality
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Scarborough and Rouge’s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participate in regular in-service in this area
• Proven good attendance record and ability of maintaining same standard
