Job Purpose
This position is responsible for leading the Quality oversight of assigned Suppliers in Incoming Materials to ensure product quality, compliance and reputation is protected, and avoiding any risk of supply of product to patients. This includes the responsibility to:
- Direct the matrix PQTS+ (procurement, quality, technical, supply & EHS, finance etc teams) responsible for day to day management and performance of API Suppliers. Coordinate activities in a matrix environment to ensure products manufactured are right first time, meet GSK standards, are delivered to patients on time and are competitively priced to achieve customer satisfaction
- Build relationships with Supplier to set common objectives and to ensure Supplier delivers to GSK standards, Supplier maintains compliance with GMP requirements and risk introduced to GSK network from use of Supplier is properly managed and mitigated. Oversee any improvement programs, such as remediation, as needed with Suppliers to ensure compliance and viability of products for the long term
- Build relationships across GSK required to support supply from Suppliers – including but not limited to Procurement, Global Planning, Regional Hubs, Global Logistics, Trading Service and Finance
- Continuously drive and deliver improvement across service, quality, safety and cost
The Incoming Materials Quality External API Director will also lead the delivery of value proposition for the Quality function through delivery of specific strategic projects by leading initiatives on supplier Right First Time, risk mitigation, Inspection Readiness and accelerating and execution of qualification of key suppliers and materials and ensuring delivery of End to End supply chain thinking.. In addition, the role will lead the “Quality Starts with Me culture” and cross functional team engagement to embed the quality plan across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Incoming Materials Quality Team Management
- Provide leadership for the IMQ team to achieve the strategic direction for assuring supply of IM for the network. Ensuring that the team is inspired and thriving to do their best work.
- Working with cross functional teams to develop the strategies for the categories and leading the execution of these to ensure we mitigate risks for the network.
- Drive the development and implementation of all global quality processes, systems and operations for supplier and incoming material quality management, with an end-to-end vision (from R&D to commercial life cycle) and in cooperation with GSK Pharma (GMS)
- Ensure a full understanding of site requirements, priorities, and issues and provide support to GSK sites during internal and regulatory inspections
Accountable for supplier relationship management and delivery of KPIs, ensuring each Supplier is managed appropriately to achieve:
- Security of product supply
- Product Quality
- Compliance with regulatory requirements, GSK policies and standards
- Delivering products of value at optimum cost
- Relationship and KPI objectives agreed annually; with improvement plans embedded
- Robust risk management; including Business Continuity Plans
- Working Capital and Inventory Targets
- Operating Budget and Savings for Regions
Supply Chain Management
- Understand from Strategy Teams their requirements with regards to cost, service, agility and product (packaging) both in the channel (distributors) and to the patient, to drive continuous improvement at the Supplier
- Responsible for the performance of the external supplier in terms of product quality, facility cGMP, service and cost. May be required to put improvement plans in place to improve quality, service, EHS, TPO and financial stability.
- Accountable for the on-time transfer of products to and from external suppliers in support of Global Supply Chain sourcing strategies.
- Ensure that Supplier Relationship Management practices and tools are in place and in use across the team to help set strategic direction, and strengthen relationships with key Suppliers.. Interface at the most senior levels with our Suppliers and act with authority and technical mastery across all operational fields
Change Management
- Drive change and manage through change, eEnsuring business continuity in a changing environment
- Encourage collaboration across GSK to ensure cross-functional input to key decisions and initiatives
Risk Management
- Identify and mitigate all forms of risk that impact supply of product to patients: Quality, Service, Cost and Capacity
- Ensure proper risk management is in place and in use with Suppliers and through our internal processes
Continuous Improvement
- Ensure consistency across how Suppliers are managed across the Region and across the other Regions through alignment with peers
- Proactively drive a mindset of continuous improvement of processes, value creation and costs savings without compromising compliance, quality or customer service across the team
- Drive robust RCA and problem solving mindset and use of tools across organization and ensuring CAPAs are implemented to address root causes
People Development, Coaching and Succession Planning
- Develop and implement strong performance targets for all supply team members to include in their myPlans and measure performance regularly
- Review performance of IMQ and PQTS+ teams on regular basis to look at projects, priorities and performance and routinely monitor to drive improvement and ensure delivery
- Establish empowered IMQ and PQTS+ teams which act as though they are leading a business, think end to end and are continuously creating value, improving performance for the organization and driving performance
- Ensure team has a strong pool of talent with strong succession plans in place . Actively participate in Talent Management activities, including coaching and mentoring for emerging talent and future leaders
- Understand the talent needs of the business and identify talent issues before they impact the business
Qualifications
- Total 18+ years of experience with minimum of 10 years experience in the following areas:
- Knowledge of applicable manufacturing and packaging processes including Vaccines, API, Solid, Liquid, Cream, Steriles, Antibiotics, Devices and Biopharms and / or learning agility
- Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing operations in Pharma and/or Vaccines
- Experience of supplier performance and relationship management across complex supply chains
- Experience implementing new product launches, integrating new business or business models, changing sources of supply and / or divesting products
- International experience
- People and capability development experience
- Sourcing strategy and procurement skills including relationship management, supplier development, continuous improvement, negotiations and ability to implement and manage complex contractual arrangements
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of GMP
- Ability to lead cross functional teams to an aligned strategy
- Highly developed problem solving skills
