This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Youth and Families Program Director will plan, promote, and supervise youth, teen and family programs and events at the Andover/North Andover YMCA. This staff member will expand programs outside the facility and into the service area, working collaboratively with community organizations and the Senior Director of Membership to further the Y’s mission and reach. The Youth and Families Program Director will regularly report with various metrics to gauge attainment of goals and member satisfaction. This position will work to increasing volunteer engagement. The Youth and Families Program Director must be committed to expanding our diversity and inclusion efforts and ensuring equity in all we do and to all we serve.
Key Responsibilities:
The Youth and Families Program Director is directly responsible for:
- Ensuring innovative program development and high-quality program delivery at the ANA YMCA that is healthy, engaging, and enjoyable. Programs may include but are certainly not limited to the following as innovation is essential to success in the role: Inclusion, sports, enrichment, educational and special interest at the Andover/North Andover branch.
- Expanding programs outside the facility and into community spaces (parks, schools, etc.), working collaboratively with community organizations and the Senior Director of Membership to further the Y’s mission and reach. Metrics and engagement should be documented at events.
- Coordinating a yearly program calendar, and leading all program promotional efforts, including working with the Marketing team, Membership Team, and Welcome Desk as needed to ensure timely program promotions, press releases, and communications to interested parties, community groups, and partners.
- Leading, organizing, and executing annual recurring programs and events: Including Healthy Kids Day, YBL, Welcoming Week, Splash Bash and reoccurring Family Engagement Calendar
- Developing a team that delivers excellent and exceeds member expectation. This includes recruiting, hiring, and coordinating program staff, instructors, coaches, and volunteers as needed in assigned areas and ensuring they are engaged and friendly at all times. Review and evaluate staff performance annually. Recognizing and promoting member and guest service, acquisition and retention as an important responsibility of all branch staff.
- Maximizing space and member opportunity: planning use of space for efficiencies and effectiveness with consideration of all organizational needs; organizing activities in collaboration with other directors to maximize member and participant opportunities and satisfaction.
- Financial Accountability: meeting or exceeding monthly and annual program revenue goals as identified in the branch’s annual operating plans, while operating within budget.
- Reporting: regularly tracking and monthly reporting on fiscal health of programs; compiling and reporting on program metrics; conducting program surveys and analyzing feedback to ensure increased participant engagement and satisfaction over time; assisting with compiling initial net promoter score, and ensuring and increasing score quarterly.
- Good management practices, including: modeling relationship-building skills and listening first skills in all interactions; creating an inclusive environment where everyone belongs and feels welcome; assuring a safe environment with effective risk management measures employed at all times. The Youth and Family Program Director will help champion a culture of service excellence and support and advocate the mission and values of the YMCA by: being aware of and assuring compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to child protection and safety; ensuring that program standards are met and proper safety procedures are followed; being responsible for general upkeep and overall tidiness of program areas.
- Other responsibilities: Attendance is mandatory for all trainings and meetings required by management team. Perform any and all other functions necessary to support the smooth and efficient operation and overall success of the Y, including manager on duty and other assigned obligations.
The Youth and Families Program Director is also expected to work collaboratively
- with the Branch leadership team, as an integral member of the management team to recruit, hire, train, and develop staff and volunteers at the Andover/North Andover Y.
- with the Association and Branch leadership teams, on philanthropy efforts including but not limited to playing an active role in the annual campaign, recruiting campaigners, and serving where needed on planning committees to attain annual campaign goal;
- with the Branch leadership team, on outreach efforts which may include participation and support of community activities, thereby growing the Y’s community outreach efforts and positive community impact;
- with the Branch leadership team, to work collaboratively on membership, promotions, building coverage, and other day-to-day responsibilities that may be required to support essential operations and priorities.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or minimum 3 years full-time equivalent experience in youth development, human or social services, recreation, or equivalent
- Knowledge of, and previous experience with, children, families, and diverse populations
- Excellent customer service skills, as well as oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to execute staff trainings and facilitate group programming
- Ability to oversee programs through supervision of volunteers and staff
- Effective organizational and project management skills
- Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Organized, accurate record-keeper
- Collaborative team player
- CPR, AED, First Aid certification preferred; must obtain within agreed upon timeframe
