Technical Director

Opera Australia is the nation’s premier opera company, performing in iconic venues such as the Sydney Opera House and Arts Centre Melbourne, as well as on tour across the country. With more than 500 performances annually, OA combines artistic excellence, national reach, and cultural leadership.

We are seeking an exceptional Technical Director to join our Executive Team and lead all technical and production operations across opera, musicals, and touring. This is a rare opportunity to shape the technical vision and operational excellence of a national cultural leader.

Reporting to the CEO and working in close partnership with Artistic Leadership, the Technical Director will:

• Provide strategic leadership as part of Opera Australia’s Executive Team.
• Partner with creative teams to realise ambitious productions at the highest international standard.
• Oversee all staging, technical operations, manufacturing, logistics and touring.
• Lead and inspire a large multidisciplinary technical workforce.
• Drive innovation, efficiency, and safety across every production.

About You

You are an experienced senior leader in technical production with a proven record in opera, theatre, or large-scale live performance. You bring deep technical knowledge, outstanding people leadership, and the ability to deliver complex productions at scale. Above all, you share our passion for artistic excellence and live performance.
