Position Details:

The Opportunity:

Under general supervision of Executive Chef and Sous Chef, as the Cook 2, you will be responsible for the preparation of menu items, special menus, and catering menus for the Performance Nutrition Program in WSU Athletics. You will be responsible for developing new items annually and seasonally in conjunction with Executive Chef.

You will ensure proper par stock ordering levels so that sufficient quantities of product are on hand while minimizing waste from over purchasing. You will develop appropriate production pars, peak meal batch cooking, and off-peak à la carte cooking levels.

In this role, you will be responsible for proper handling and storage of all food products. You must demonstrate judgment, integrity, and commitment to quality in all items prepared and you will be responsible for the safe and appropriate use and care of equipment, clean up, and securing of work area at shifts end. Additionally, you will maintain records as required and direct production area. You will also provide quality customer service to our guests.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime-eligible.

This position works on-site the WSU Pullman campus.

Monthly Salary: $3,495 to $ 4,653 | Range 39 | Steps A - M. Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28. Step M is typically a longevity step.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years cooking experience in a large scale food service or culinary operation which includes six (6) months experience directing the work of others. Completion of course in large‑scale cooking may be substituted for one (1) year of experience; OR one (1) year as a Cook 1 in State service; OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within 14 days of employment, a Washington state Food Handler’s Permit.
  • Ability to work some evenings, mornings, and weekends based on business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) - five (5) years of experience in increasingly responsible food service positions.
  • Experience in à la carte restaurant cooking and various international/ethnic cuisines.
  • Serve Safe Certified.

  • Multi-Faceted Food Experience.

  • Experience leading and training employees.
  • General knowledge of commercial grade kitchen equipment use, safety, and maintenance.
