Primary Purpose of Role
Football Queensland's pool of Professional Leagues Match Commissioners will oversee the effective delivery of Football Queensland Professional Leagues matches by working collaboratively with host clubs, ensuring consistency, quality and integrity across all fixtures statewide.
Match Commissioners will be appointed on a match-by-match basis and are expected to be available for weekend and evening matches across the South-East Queensland region. A match fee will be paid per appointment.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Professional Leagues Match Commissioners will be required to:
- Liaise with Host Clubs to ensure match venues are prepared in accordance with the Rules of Competition and Laws of the Game, including field of play markings, technical areas, and match equipment.
- Ensure matches commence and proceed in alignment with published key timings and Competition Regulations.
- Collaborate with Team Managers and Match Officials (referees) to confirm that matches are properly organised, and any operational matters are resolved efficiently.
- Ensure all matchday requirements are met and verified using the Match Commissioner Checklist, including (but not limited to) match footballs, documentation, and playing strip allocations.
- Escalate incidents, rule breaches, or competition-related enquiries to the Football Queensland Competitions Department as appropriate.
- Monitor participant behaviour (including that of spectators), ensuring any misconduct, safety concerns, or welfare issues are appropriately addressed and reported.
- Submit a completed Match Commissioner Report by 12:00pm on the day following the appointed match, detailing any relevant incidents, observations, or regulatory concerns.
Key Requirements
Essential:
- No current affiliation with any Professional Leagues club; any previous affiliations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
- Strong football acumen, with demonstrated football operations, event delivery, compliance, or stakeholder engagement.
- High attention to details with the ability to observe, assess, and report incidents accurately and succinctly using formal reporting tools.
- Proven ability to follow structured regulations, run sheets, and match schedules.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to work constructively with clubs, match officials, and Football Queensland staff.
- Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure on match day.
- A valid Working with Children Check (or a willingness to obtain one prior to appointment).
- A current Driver's Licence and access to reliable transport.
- Commitment to Football Queensland's values, behaviours, and organisational culture.
- Availability to work weekends and evenings, including midweek matches, as required by the competition schedule.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively across the South-East Queensland region.
Desirable:
- Prior experience as a Match Commissioner or in a similar regulatory or operational role.
- Familiarity with Football Queensland's Competition Regulations and matchday protocols.
- Knowledge of integrity and safeguarding principles within a sporting context.
Key Stakeholders & Working Relationships
The Match Commissioner will be required to liaise and collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of Professional Leagues matches. Key stakeholders include:
Internal Football Queensland Stakeholders:
- Senior Manager - Leagues & Officials
- Officer - Advanced Leagues & Competition Compliance
- Head of Advanced Match Officials
- Competitions Team
- Customer Service - Officials Team
Matchday & Technical Stakeholders:
- Referees (Match Officials)
- Mentors and Referee Educators
External Stakeholders:
- Club representatives (Team Managers, Coaches etc)
- Club volunteers and operational staff
- Other relevant venue and matchday personnel
Availability Requirements
Due to the nature of competition schedule, Match Commissioners must be available to work:
- Most weekends during the Professional Leagues season, including post season Showcase Events, such as the Mitre Festival of Football
- Evenings for midweek matches as scheduled
- Across a variety of venues in the South-East Queensland region, with travel required
